I killed two raccoons like that one time. They were in the middle of the Highway late one night checking on a buddy that had been hit earlier. One under each tire.

I saw a dead pig in the road. It was right where I shot it.

Seeing a dead cat in the road doesn’t trigger much emotion in me because …"cats"…. Seeing a dead dog or a dear bugs me to the point of sadness.

Do you think they were related?

Was this the Jennings serial cat killer?

One time I ran over a big arse possum with my Corolla. It felt like I went over a basketball. Not on purpose.

It would have been national news if they were.

Hillbillies and inbreds will often deliberately run over cats.

Exceedingly rare to see cat road kill. They’re too quick to get hit by a car. Not sure what to make of that.

I've seen cars hit two cats and both cats died. What I saw that may affect "cats as road kill" was that after they were hit both cats kept running off the road. One fell over dead after it passed the hell strip and landed on the sidewalk. The other had about a minute of horrible contortions off the side of the road and we had turned our car around to go home to get a handgun to put the poor thing down, when if fell over dead.

I think they just die off in the bushes where nature takes over recycling.

I'd assume maybe the heat killed or disoriented them before they were hit.

Good start...

Several years ago, driving through Decatur, Tn I was driving a VW Diesel, being followed by an old Chevy Nova with big racing slicks on the back. There was a couple of big homes with nice big lawns on the right, as I was leaving town. I noticed a couple of cats playing. I thought, if he crosses the road he is a dead cat. To my surprise, one started racing toward the road. I knew that gutless VW I was driving was not going to catch him, when I heard the four barrel on the Nova open up as he sped past me.
You know the rest.

Well you’ve got your dead cat,
And you’ve got your dead dog,
On a moon lit night you got your dead toad frog,
You’ve got your dead rabbit and your dead raccoon,
The blood and the guts are gonna make you swoon.

It must’ve been Moles that did those Calicos in. My Calico left a dead mole in the garage and another one in the back yard this morning. I found it odd but your post has helped me put the puzzle pieces to this mystery together. The murdered moles were reprisal killings.
