re: In your opinion, should “Left lane for passing only” violation become a national law?

Here's the deal: Stay out of the left lane unless you're passing, and everyone else shouldn't drive like idiots. More cops on the interstate trying to enforce this law will gum up the works. When they pull someone over every retard that is easily distracted by shiny objects and flashing lights will rubber neck and hit their brakes......fricking everything up.

No. Why do you people want to continually cede state powers to the federal government?

National law allowing for these violators to have a pit maneuver used on them.

I agree left lane for passing should be enforced (no need for federal law) and miss driving the autobahn. But neither of these are true. Plenty of stretches of autobahn are 2 lane and trucks can move left to pass. Where'd you get this notion?

So assuming that is a line of all F-250s complete with truck nuts and 15 truck lengths between them, that's a line of 45-60 F-250s traveling below the speed limit in the passing lane.

I have just never understood the driving in the left lane thing. While driving on a normal 2 lane road (probably 80% of our driving time) you drive in the right lane, so why jump over to the left lane when you get on a 4 lane?

Tennessee may be one of the worst offenders in this country.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything more true than this on tOT.
Drives me absolutely bugnuts.

I so wish this law was enforced.

Agreed. But we do need fewer arseholes

I’m fine with shaming those that can’t follow this simple rule on interstates with more open flow.
However, I think there are differing opinions on areas such as 4 lane roads, or interstate within city that have left exits, or how much faster you have to be going.
I sometimes get in that situation of going 2mph faster while in left lane so it takes a bit to pass and move over. While another car gets on my arse because not passing fast enough.

Who is going to enforce this national law?

Doesn't matter here. Too many people sitting in the middle lane for no reason at all which also contributes to backups. People get stuck in the left lane because they can't move over while dipshit in the middle lane has a wide open right lane they could get into. The states like NJ and Montana in the above graph have it right. You MUST stay in the FAR RIGHT lane unless overtaking.
I spend most of my time driving in the right lane on the interstates around here because it's usually the faster lane.

Yes. Why would someone want to be there if not passing?

It's a law in Georgia, and I have seen a guy pulled over for violating, just haven't seen that happen enough.

There is always a solution...

Posted on 4/12/25 at 4:49 pm to 0x15E
No. It's not something that should or could be done at all times. For example, peak hours when all lanes should be utilized or when there are left lane exits
It would be better if people would be thoughtful at all times and not in need if law to be considerate

Your mom should be for "passing only."
