Is Dr. Pepper a Coke or Pepsi product?

Went to Taco Belch last night for drunk food and ordered Dr. Pepper, just like I've been doing for 30+ years. They say: "We only serve Pepsi products here." I note that there is no longer a Dr. Pepper dispenser @ the fountain.
All PepsiCo stores I've ever visited have served DP for decades, but it's bottled locally by Coca Cola and usually included when Coke products go on sale. Except sometimes at Target where it's included with sales on Pepsi products.
So, who really owns Dr. Pepper?
Also, can someone tell me where to find the closest toilet....shite--too late.

I thought Dr. Pepper was its own brand. I think Mr. Pibb is Coke's version.

Originally I believe it was invented in Dublin, TX.
Controversial to some of origin and who owns/invented it.
