Some of the best memories of my life were made at Pancho’s Mexican Buffet

No, Panchos....if you 've ever smelled it, you'll never forget.

U
Used to see LSU football players (mostly huge linemen) at the Nicholson drive location sitting at huge tables just piled with empty plates. No wonder that location eventually had to throw in the towel and close down.

I may have put the one on Nicholson out of business with my excessive flag raising.

Panchos was absolutely GOAT. El Magey on Seigen has a decent buffet, but it’s nowhere near the same. However, they have the closest chile rellenos to Panchos I’ve had since they closed down. Other chile rellenos I’ve had are certainly “better” than those, but there was something about the thick batter and the gooey cheese they used for the filling that I miss.

I use it almost every day for the dumb fricking imbeciles who don’t know that OT stands for off-topic, there is a dedicated board for all things food
Yes, but this is less about the food and more about the Nostalgia, making it more fitting for the OT, at least for a bit.

I remember them well when I was little kid.

That was Roger and Gene. They had it opened and humming along until Covid killed the business off. Roger took off first and Gene tried to keep it open.
Gene now works making poboys at Short Stop in Metairie. Not sure where Roger went after he left.

quote:It was a temple on weekends when the campus cafeterias were closed. Buffet was $1.59 when I was a freshman. To give perspective, that was more than the cost of six drafts then.
the one on Nicholson

Pancho’s, silver moon, Mr Gatti’s, so many cheap places to eat back in the early 90’s. Throw in .25 draft and dollar calls at Murphy’s and dollar juice drinks at Fred’s, was an awesome time. Of course we needed it with the football team being terrible.
Do y'all still have Kettle Restaurants on the gulf coast? There was one at Six Flags west of Atlanta for a few years but when I was in Galveston the one on the seawall was a surefire hangover cure...

Last time I visited Houston I went to the one on the outskirts there. It obviously wasn’t as good as I remembered as a kid but i enjoyed it. I stole the flag from the table and gave it as a gift to a buddy of mine who has it in this man cave.

The one in Humble (Houston) near IAH is still open I believe.
