I’ve been using it a lot more for cooking lately but it’s like 30 bucks for 3 lbs of it.
Is there any way to get it for cheap?

Geez, the wife pays more than that getting it from PaleoValley.
Allegedly grass fed, etc.

Most butchers sell it, check around.

Google is your friend. Query beef tallow 50 lb. A cursory search reveals Walmart.com Beef Tallow 50 lb Bulk Foodservice Food Grade for $155 plus tax, free shipping. That's under "$3.50" a pound padnuh.
I can't vouch for the quality, and I've read criticisms the cheap tallow tastes like soap, which makes sense, because one can use it to manufacture soap. Remember that part of Fight Club where the guy was making upscale soap from liposuction fat?

Maybe Publix? I buy bacon grease there.

I mean...if you're willing. Find a cook off where they are doing brisket. Ask for their cut off fat. Render down into tallow.

Local butcher sells beef fat trimmings for next to nothing. Maybe $8 for a 10 pound bag.
I run it through a grinder so it'll render faster, put it in a pot and put in oven on 200 degrees for 8 hours, strain and strain, jar it. I can get 3 quart jars from 1 bag. Definitely the cheapest way and super easy to do.

About zero chance anyone at a bbq contest is giving away their brisket trimmings. They use it for ground meat and to…..make tallow.

3 pounds?
I’ve got a quart jar in the fridge from my last brisket that might last me another 6 months

Render your own.
Beef fat trimmings
Put in pot with half inch of water
Cook on low for couple hours until fat separates from solids.
Strain fat to remove impurities
Store tallow in jar in fridge

Man I'm brainstorming. I wouldn't give it up for sure but...maybe a long shot. Do one where they are cooking enough and you might have a chance

It still blows my mind that people buy bacon grease. My grandmother (and mother for that matter) would probably whip my arse if I told them I bought bacon grease.

Check with butchers, ask for fat trimmings and/or suet. Very easy to render at home, get a fine mesh strainer and some cheesecloth to strain and jars to store. You can even use the extra fat left over from cooking 73/27% ground beef if you're so inclined.

If I buy an untrimmed beef brisket or slab of meat of primal cuts like N.Y. Strip or Ribeye, I will trim the bulk of the fat from the meat and render it down. That is usually good for a quart or more from each hunk of meat.

20 years ago, I wouldn't have done it, but I don't eat as much bacon anymore.
I like fried potatoes, green tomatoes and eggs cooked in bacon grease though.
