Is this a scam, received a letter from Payne Richards & Associates?

Why would you have to pay 10% for them to give you your own money?

Its pretty obvious, but have you ever had any business with the company? If not, that should be another clue.

It's a real thing but they would be basically doing something that you can do for yourself. Each state has an unclaimed property website, go search your name in each state you've lived in to determine where the funds are from. Follow the steps and get your money without having to pay someone else $190

I checked the state treasury web site, says I have unclaimed property > $100. It doesn't say what it's for specifically other than unclaimed property from 2011. It doesn't ring a bell, so I have no clue what it is for, just feel good to be getting something from the state rather having to give.

From this situation I think everyone should use this as a PSA to check the state treasury website, you might have something waiting for you. All you have to do is enter your name in the search field. I know this will be difficult for some on the OT but it's worth a shot. I will even do half the work for you click this for state treasury.

I signed up and got what looked like a check to me from the KY State Treasurer. In fact it was a copy. Made out to me, but apparently PR pockeded the money. Bank rejected the "check" on grounds of being a copy. Payne Richards did not send the money to me. All very strange and embarrassing as to dealings with bank.
