He was a very big deal in the New Orleans real estate market. He owned a lot of property and drove a hard bargain. At one time he Owned more hotel rooms than anyone else. That diminished as He sold a lot of property over the past 3 years.
There are legendary stories about his ability and willingness to walk away from deals leaving people’s jaw on the floor. There are some attorneys that are going to miss his legendary negotiations.
He owns the shuttered eyesore plaza tower that the city has been trying to settle with him as it prepares for the Super Bowl. Supposedly that was recently sold.
He was a quiet player both in business and civically. He gave generously to many good causes.
He’s going to be massively missed on many levels.

He's a POS that buys properties that says he'll develop and then sit on them for years to flip them.
He owns a piece of property near the fairgrounds in Franklinton that makes(rumor has it) around 30k in cash in parking every year. He allows the Franklinton baseball team to operate it and keep the money. Idk how much money he has, but I know I’ll never have enough(even if it’s a billion damn dollars) to let someone have 30k in cash that I could be shoving in my mattress.
He was also one that spoke out about the good ole boy deal that the casino was getting in New Orleans. Just his article in the times picayune made JBE pivot and collected more money for the state.
I don’t know if what you say is true about him, but it should be known that he did decent things and Called a wrong what it was.

frick that slumlord
Why touch the Plaza Tower without concrete assurances you can do something with it, and then let it fall into ruin

Self made man. From my observations, the Jaegers took care of their people. I’ve heard a few other guys credit their successes from Mr. Joe in the 80’s/90’s. You were good to them, they were good to you. RIP Mr. Joe.

Won't be torn down or sold. Asbestos remediation costs more than it's worth and there is no safe way to implode it (no basements in New Orleans to receive the rubble). It'll have to be torn down reverse-construction style which is way too expensive.

Screw the Advocate. I’m not about to pay $0.99 more to subscribe to a dead paper than they pay for a newsroom

Not an advocate fan but that was a well written article/tribute to Jaeger. RIP.

Jaegers at West End was owned by Allen Jaeger. They pronounced the J while Joe did not.
Joe's car was struck earlier in the week on Hwy 25. I saw the pictures from the accident. His SUV roof was pancaked. It was a miracle that he survived the crash right there and lasted the few days that he did.
Joe was a good man who busted his arse for his family and friends and believed in the New Orleans area and worked his arse off to make things better. His people that worked for him absolutely loved him. He worked them hard and rewarded them commensurately. I've known Mr.Joe since I was a teenager. He and my uncle had been friends since they were kids and both graduated from Holy Cross

The land is worth so much it's worth the minimal cost to buy the building with the hopes that the City or someone else finally gets the funds to tear it down.
