The Georgia Pacific in Port Hudson makes Quilted Northern tp and Brawny paper towels too.

Georgia Pacific found it cheaper to import wood pulp from China than use Louisiana trees for its Port Hudson papermill.

Hopefully people, particularly in Texas will read this public health statement

We discussed panic buying because others panic buy.
All it takes is one person to post on Facebook, "I bet that some morons will hear about the strike and make another panic run on TP." Then it happens.
Ammo was that way for years. Panic buying began with events like Sandy Hook and "Obama/Hillary's gonna take all the guns and stuff!" It was snatched up as soon as it hit the shelves, which were often empty, or there were strict purchase limits. Meanwhile, manufacturers were making as much or more than ever, but the panic-induced shortages led to more panicky rumors such as the government was buying it all up to keep it out of the hands of citizens. It took many years to get back to what is now fairly normal retail availability. The whole years long fiasco was based on panic by a few nuts that caused others to also hoard in response.

Seen this last night.....which I never knew.
"Many toilet paper brands use eucalyptus pulp, including:
Procter & Gamble, Kimberly-Clark and Georgia-Pacific Uses eucalyptus pulp imported from Brazil.
Eucalyptus pulp is used to make toilet paper because the short fibers in the pulp make the paper soft and absorbent."

Jackson, MO.......Manteca, CA.......PA for Charmin.....P&G has a large manufacturing plants in those locations. Raw materials come from Minnesota , Pacific Northwest....Louisiana....some trucked over the border from Canada.
Not sure on the Kimberly Clark locations

It has to be women who load up on shite paper right? I don't think I've ever been concerned with running out. Meanwhile women use a lot of it.

While all of our tp is made in North America, not all of the raw materials comes from here.
Could probably grow our own hemp and call it a day.
Which is another reason climate change is bs. We cut down a shite load of trees that releases carbon in the air when we could be using hemp.

“If it takes one or two weeks for the strike to end, there could be delays that affect raw materials used to produce toilet paper,” said Gonzalez, who monitors technological and sustainability developments in the toilet paper industry as co-director of the Tissue Pack Innovation Lab.
More specifically, the strike could delay shipments of the eucalyptus pulp used by Procter & Gamble, Kimberly-Clark, Georgia-Pacific and other toilet paper manufacturers across the United States.

That meme doesn’t account for the inputs.
Just because my car was built in the US doesn’t mean all of the components came from the US.
It’s still panic buying, but people need to understand how beholden we are to foreigners. Both things are true.

There is a Georgia Pacific plant in Zachary that makes TP.

lol I went and got 2 packs - not because of the strike, but because of the morons precipitating this panic buying.....also I needed TP anyway

Coffee would be an eventual issue. Might be a good idea to buy a little extra in case of shortages/price hikes....
BUT TOILET PAPER??? With apologies to women- we know one of their greatest fears is running out of it.
They just don't know where it comes from.

yet, the store shelves are empty. why is toilet paper is the first thing people hoard whenever something happens?

Hemp and bamboo could easily replace a significant portion of our current wood usage.
