Inspection stickers are nothing more than a revenue source. FTP and the bastards in Baton Rouge

Mine expired in 12/21. Taking my chances. Not paying several hundred for a crack in my windshield not even in my line of sight. But the mfers won’t just slap a sticker on anymore. I didn’t realize the ticket is that expensive though. Still cheaper than a new windshield.

You do have 30 day grace period in Louisiana. Call the DA’s office.

How fricking lazy are you? Wow.

I went like six years before without getting one of my trucks inspected. It's not about being lazy. It's about getting robbed by the state. Why should I have to keep paying 10-20 dollars for a sticker that is going to fall off in a few weeks.

Expired 12/22. I told the cop that I thought we had a 30 day grace period. He just said no and handed me my ticket. Fine is $252.

Never has been. People used to say that because you have a whole month to do it but that is the month on the tag. It creates confusion.

Honest question..
I got my new truck recently from TX.
I haven’t gone and gotten an inspection sticker. If I don’t get one.. they wouldn’t stop me for it right?

I bought my last truck in Texas. I rode around for two years with a Texas inspection tag on my windshield and a Louisiana plate.

How do you prove your sticker without driving into court?

In the thriving metropolis of Denham Springs, they had me pull into the parking lot and the receptionist looked out the window at my windshield. Very official.

There is no law that says you have a 30 day grace period, but a reasonable cop who is not trying to make a quota should have cut you some slack and let you off with a warning.

Incorrect. You have a one month grace. Cop was wrong - OP was right. Take it to court - city attorney will almost certainly drop the charge (even in the Westwego Kangaroo City Court). File a complaint with the department that they have incompetent officers who don't have a grasp of very basic traffic code provisions.

LSA R.S. 32:1304(E)(1) states:

The mere failure of the owner or operator of a motor vehicle required by this Section to be inspected to obtain a current and valid inspection certificate shall not be in violation, provided that the certificate has been expired less than one calendar month; nor shall an owner or operator be in violation if he shall produce on demand, under Subsection B of this Section, a certificate of inspection for the vehicle valid and effective for not more than six months and not in current display on the windshield by reason of replacement of the windshield glass.

You can pull this statute from the La. Legislature's website.

Get a new sticker ASAP.
Go to your court date. You'll talk to a city or parish attorney. They will offer some bs deal if you pay court cost and have a new tag.
They may even toss it out. What they WANT is for you to pay it early and not go to court.

"Your honor, I'm sorry, my tag expired during the holidays. I was traveling and just wasn't in the area to get it done until the 5th of January. My car was in compliance and quickly passed inspection and my insurance was current and valid. "

I agree with dovehunter. Have a check engine light on for emissions on my old jeep now. Can’t get an inspection sticker. Not paying to fix it. It runs fine. So…. I will ride without one. Pisses me off.

Mine is expired by 3yrs

That's why I like you Yote, you live on the edge.

Now on topic, I have special equipment in my van to drive from my wheelchair. This is the info if anyone cares about the electronic driving equipment EMC

Long story short, my inspection sticker expired buy like 2 months, but I had to go get my driving equipment inspected where I got it installed and they check everything, they do a more detailed inspection of the vehicle than they do when I get my van inspected for the state and I go every 6 to 8 weeks so I just thought I would wait to get my inspection sticker right after I go get all my equipment inspected.

At the time it just made sense. I get it all done in 1 day, in my mind it was pointless to go get a state inspection sticker so being over a few months shouldn't be a problem (this was when I was younger). About 2 weeks before I was going bring in my van to get all the equipment checked out, etc I am driving through neighborhoods on my way home. I stop at a stop sign and there was a cop that stopped in the opposite direction.

All of a sudden I could see the reflection of lights in my review so I looked and saw the cop car with the lights on doing a U turn. I pull off to the side to give the car room thinking they got a call in and headed to a scene. She tells me to go up next street and pull over there. I wasn't speeding, I stopped at the stop signed, I had no idea why I was being stopped. I pull over, she comes up to me and asked if I know why she stopped me, I told her I did not. I honestly didn't even think about the inspection sticker.

She tells me my inspection sticker is expired by almost 3 months. I explained to her why I had not gone get it yet and how it had only been 7 months since an unofficial inspection had been done (the place just isn't certified to do state inspections, but they download all of the software, then make sure all functions work, the software includes the same reads as a state inspection) and that I could go that moment to get it. She told me I could go do whatever I wanted, but because she saw it was expired she was giving me a ticket.

I said something like "really? You can follow me to make sure I go get an inspection sticker". She said she didn't need to follow me to go do what I was supposed to do 3 months earlier" I then told her something like "so you really don't care if someone has an inspired inspection sticker other than it gives you a reason to stop and issue tickets?".

She wasn't too happy about the way I said it (I think I said a few cuss words) so she gave me another ticket for some bullshite. At that point I was pissed at myself, I should have just let her issue the ticket and get it taken care of, but I can't just keep my mouth shut like a moron..

I called the place where I go get the equipment checked out and explained to the dude who owned the place what happened.. two days later the chief of police calls me up and tells me he apologized for the inconvenience and the tickets have been taken care of. But some of these cops look for the easy stops. I get it, they want to show they are doing work, but the inspection sticker thing is all just another tax and a bullshite law that gives police some bullshite to enforce.
