For 11-year-old Zandyn Merritt, holding a small bull shark in his hands has taken on a new meaning as he caught it too close to home along the banks of the Alabama Tombigbee River.
Alisha Richardson said the discovery and catch in the early hours of July 21 surprised everyone when the 10-pound, three-foot shark was found on a trout line.
“It was caught near the Shepard Lake area in Mt. Vernon,” Richardson stated. “We were surprised, but that boy is a real fisherman.

It’s pretty much common knowledge bulls can live in fresh water. Still, this little fella made it a pretty decent way up river from Mobile Bay.

Caught a shark and a strong contender for Mullet of the Year(tm). He's going to remember these as the good old days.

Bull sharks are the pitbull of the ocean. More dangerous that a great white.

Saw a 5-6 footer thigh deep from the beach last week in Florida. He was certainly clearing the water down the beach.

generally speaking, yes... bull and tigers are pretty much 1a and 1b for most dangerous to humans, especially near the shore.... i'd put the oceanic white tip up there as more dangerous than a white, out in the open water, as they are very curious sharks and are more aggressive than whites

I used to live along the Tombigbee in Columbus, MS. We used to go some gravel pits and find fossilized shark teeth.
Crazy to think once upon time sharks were swimming in central Mississippi.

Yeah, they suck too. Those are the sharks that are responsible for those poor guys from the USS Indianapolis. Sometimes the sharks would go away. Sometimes they wouldn't go away.

That's cool. I used to live in Sarasota FL. The apartment was probably 6 miles from the gulf. It has a small lake and you could find all kind of shark teeth around it. But what made them cool was they were twice as big as they are now. They were grey colored and from the time when that part was underwater.
Knew a guy that had about thirty or so megalodon teeth. And there are a ton of dinosaurs fossils around the area. Another friend worked construction on these very high end houses. Everytime he found some, he would keep them and had a shed full. They never reported when they found them. The company did want archeologist to find out and stop the building of multi-million dollar homes.

I have a second home in Venice. Casperson Beach (just past Sharkye's and the Pier) is full of sharks teeth. Daughter has found one fully intact megalodon tooth.
