Ladder Rung Spacing Dimensions

When making a ladder what is a good spacing dimension in-between rungs?

For kids or adults? Smaller legs mean smaller spacings, probable <10". Adults you'll probably want around ~12"

One side 6 the other side 12 I need this for a drop off with the ground. Sort of like an above ground pool ladder

I'd shoot for 10" if you are expecting any kids to use it, especially smaller ones. Little steps won't hurt bigger people to use, and if you ever have the fortune of a dwarf joining you, it will make it easily accessible.
