Compared with the traditional route, I-10 through Baton Rouge, how much slower is taking 90 all the way? (down though New Iberia and into Morgan City, then east into New Orleans)

Not much. I always take 90. The basin bridge and BR are a complete toss up.

The basin really isn’t that bad usually but yeah it might be worth it just to skip Baton Rouge can’t remember the last time I took this route and didn’t get slowed down going through town

About 30-45 minutes it’s worth skipping Baton Rouge

WAY slower taking 90

Not worth it IMHO

I would never chose to do it unless there was already some cluster going on

Hwy 90 was my preferred route to take from Lafayette just because it’s a more relaxing drive.

The Basin can be okay, but every now and then there's a wreck and it totally screws the pooch for travel.

Baton Rouge is generally crap to get through. For that reason alone I would opt for taking 90 any week day and any Saturday when LSU is playing at home.

Waze is usually pretty accurate about when you should take 190 instead

IF I have to go to Nola, I always take 90. It’s a little longer, but no traffic & I like to avoid Baton Rouge at all costs. Plus fruit stands.

You can also stop at Spahrs or Franks for a Bloody Mary

Only one route makes it convenient to stop at Frank's for their world famous bloody mary's.

Depends on where you're starting in Laf. When I go to my buddies house in River Ranch I 9/10 take 90 because I'd rather keep moving and lose 25-30 min vs taking the gamble on MS Bridge and Basin coming from Nola. When I'm going to a client office in Carencro, I'll take 10. 90 through Lafayette can be a mess too.

If you hit BR between 4 and 6 PM, plan for 30 minutes to cross the bridge.

I always take the Hwy 90 route. For a couple of reasons. One is I hate the basin bridge and Baton Rouge traffic. Another reason is, Spahrs. I gotta get them catfish fries and Onion fries.

90 and a stop for boudin balls is way better than staring at the tiger stop for 30 minutes. Just be careful when you get to westwego.

The factor you’re overlooking is the condition of hwy 90 between Lafayette and Morgan City. If you have any rattles on your vehicle before you begin this trip you should expect to lose some of those parts. If you don’t have any rattles before you begin expect some upon arrival.

My wife's family is from Metairie so we make that drive atleast once a month. Assuming no sort of traffic or slow downs it's right around 30 minutes further going Hwy90 vs I10, however we take 90 just about every time to avoid going though BR or getting stuck behind a wreck on the basin bridge. Very rarely is there not some sort of slowdown when taking I10. The only time we'll make an exception is if we're on the road super early or super late where traffic is light.

Personally when I would ever make the drive between Lafayette and New Orleans, hwy90 route would be my go to.

Also depends where I'm at in New Orleans and south side of Lafayette or not

If I'm traveling past Lafayette I'll just take I10 out of New Orleans
