I guess someone bumped in to the stove dial. Walked into my house after being away for around 8 hours, could smell the gas right away.

I opened all of the doors and am sitting outside, anything else I should do? How long till I can go in my house safely?

Update: opened doors and windows, turned switches and plugged in a fan (preparing to die) and haven’t died yet. Although, if you hear of a house blowing up in Uptown, send tribute to NolaTiger52

Good thing you didn’t walk inside with a cigar.

Might want to call the FD and let them come sniff it to be safe.

How strong is the smell? I've had this happen before and never had any problems. It's always been a really light odor, though.

Depends on how much you like you house.

Or your wife’s cat.

You need to call fire department and have them come out. They can use a multi gas and make sure it’s all safe

Turn on your fan on the ac and let it circulate the air from outside

Throwing the main breaker would've been a good idea as well, but OP may be beyond the point of that being necessary.

That's pretty damn scary. Also RIP from your gas bill.

Do you have a CO monitor in your house? The risk of fire or explosion usually dissipates after 2-3 hours, but carbon monoxide poisoning is the bigger threat.

No
Do not turn on anything electrical
And the fan on your AC does not circulate air from outside
