Kelly Scrantz- all day, everyday! Let him look. He won't do surgery if not needed. I've seen him for years at the suggestion of medical friends. Still not a surgery candidate but ask any operating nurse at the Lake- they recommend him.

I don't have a local surgeon to recommend for you, but have had a few coworkers with major back problems recently. Every one of them says that their only regret is that they didn't have surgery sooner.

their advice is to work through the other options first (injections and physical therapy), but if those don't provide adequate relief, move to surgery without hesitating. all three said the surgery was not bad and had quick recovery times. they all said that they could feel immediate relief when they woke up after surgery was done.

I wish I knew years ago what I know now about the role food plays in inflammation and pain. I corrected my diet and started supplementing with natural anti-inflammatories and got better to the point that I could start lifting weights again and now I have very little pain.

In 2014 I hurt my back and started with Kyle Girod with Baton Rouge Orthopedic. He didnt believe I was in pain and did two steroid injections and wanted me to do physical therapy. I couldn't stand for more than a minute without being in pain. I choose to go see Oberlander with neuromedical. He was very smart and very arrogant but good at what he does. He told me I could wait a month for him to do the surgery or I could see Waugsepack who could do my surgery in a few weeks or they had just taken on Charles Bowie as a new dr with their practice and he probably take me later that week. My wife and I met with Dr Bowie and he explained to me the procedure to do l5-s1 microdiscectomy. I had the surgery a week or so later. After the surgery he explained not only did he have to remove the disc fragment but had to repair a never that was severed. I have zero back pain today and the most weight I pick up is my 2 year old, who weighs 35lbs. I would highly recommend Dr. Charles Bowie. The funny thing was Baton Rouge Orth called me 2 days after my surgery to see if I wanted another steroid shot and when I told them I had surgery and wouldn't need thier services.

My mom has a ton of back issues, but from what we have seen/heard, back surgery should be the 100 percent last resort, like cannot even walk resort.

Most will tell you to avoid surgery at all costs.
If your pain is worse and worse everyday and shots and what not fails then seriously look into doing it.

I suffered and believed the anti-surgery types for 7 years before I did surgery.

I'm 6 months out and feel amazing most days.
A healthy diet and daily stretching helps it as well.

L5/S1 Disc Herniation
Had laminectomy/decompression done.
Hospital for 1 night. Back at work 5 weeks later.

Plenty. Put off pain relieving surgery as long as possible and try every conservative measure first.

Have neurological-deficit-sparing surgery as soon as possible.

Don't do it dude. Seek every possible option first. Yoga, chiropractor, strength therapy (back and hips), acupuncture, etc etc.

If you have to get surgery find the best doctor available if you can afford it.

I do agree that surgery should be the last resort....however, I think you should have it before the point that you are unable to walk.

My wife is a home health nurse that takes care of many, many, many spine surgery patients. I can tell you there are NONE in BR that she would recommend. She can tell you some horror stories. Infection rates are very high. Not naming names, but no one named on here would be recommended. If you are serious you'll have to go see this one. She has patients that drive to NO from BR to make sure this man does the surgery. He is very particular about his after care also. Dr John Davis

scheduled for another on the 20th.

I'll see you there.
I have almost the same diagnosis as you. L3/4 AND L4/5 bulging, bone spurs and torn L5/S1. Nerve ablaision #1 worked great and lasted about 9 months. Had 2nd one in December and got no relief. Going for my 2nd round of injections same day as you are.
I like Graham well enough, MUCH better than Turnipseed over there (guy's a hack). It took Sean 1 visit to suggest some different options, Turnipseed just wrote prescriptions for 6 months straight and never once suggested anything else. Sean keeps telling me that I'm too young (37) for any major surgery and too hold out as long as I possibly can. Not sure how much longer I can though, being in constant pain sucks.
Good luck

I dealt with lumbar spinal stenosis at the L-4 L-5 vertebrae, along with herniation of the disc and arthritis for over 6 years. I had the epidural injections, radio frequency ablation therapy, all are just a bandaid, only temporary. I reached out to Laser Spine Institute back in February, March 16 2017 I had Dr Reginald Davis do a hemilaminectomy surgery to fix this problem. I was up and walking a hour after the surgery and going on 3rd week of the healing pprocess, and I feel great!!! The cost wasn't too hateful at a modest 15,500$,out of pocket.
