LSU alums that live out of state and your kids want to go to LSU

What does the scholarship situation look like?
Are there out of state waivers available or is it just the Tiger Legacy Scholarship ($500-$1000 add-on to merit)?

I think they used to give alum’s kids in state tuition rates but scrapped that in the last 10 years.

Get them in the Tiger Band full scholarship.
I still don't understand why the band only gives scholarships to out of state students.

LSU gives out way more scholarships to out of state kids than in state. They use TOPS as a crutch to not offer local kids which often backfires when out of state school poach our best and brightest because we don’t offer them anything.

My wife and I graduated from LSU and live right across the border in MS…no fricking way I’m paying out of state for LSU.

I had saved money for him to go to either Ole Miss or State, but he’s got scholarship offers to Florida and Arkansas to be a placekicker.

Unless they play sports, I’d do everything I can to talk them out of it.

I had a relative go through it recently and they have upped the requirements for out of state students. This kid had 4.4 GPA/32 ACT and I don't think the scholarship covered the full out of state cost.

E is still solid to us, correct? And is he putting on a little weight?

Magnolia Scholarship or Academic Common Market are just two options I know of

I paid in state rates as the child of a state college graduate while graduating HS and residing in Bartlett, TN. Dad’s degree from LaTech was good for any of us kids at any LA state college.
Sister transferred to NLU (now ULM) from University of Tennessee and paid in state too (pharmacy, after literal gender discrimination from a UT Dean:”already too many women in the system so you just won’t make the cut!” Didn’t even need the grade in question at UT for the NLU program.)
Mom actually graduated from Centenary as she was a year behind Dad and then had a semester off with each of my sisters. They met at LaTech from opposite sides of the state, Dad from next to the Mississippi River and Mom from next to the Sabine River. We could have gone to Centenary w/out out of state fees but preferred recognized programs for our majors.
ETA
Got my 2nd degree w/out paying out of state fees/tuition by having the 1st degree even though I lived out of state the whole time between the two.

5.0 scale? Do they still convert these back to the 4.0 scale (lose the honors credit/bump) when factoring scholarships?

Yea, if coach Fountain is the special teams coach next year I think he’ll sign the LOI in December. Both Jake and Cam are kicking on Sundays…hard to argue with that success.
Not really. He’s an incredibly active kid. More than ready to kick in the SEC though. I want to make him a graphic of all the SEC stadiums and field goal distance records at each…see how many he can claim. LSU is only 55 yards (York) for example.

LSU offered nothing, when Oklahoma, Baylor, Arkansas and Texas Tech all had similar percentages covered by scholarship. We did not meet their diversity push criteria.

Arkansas waives out of state tuition for border state students with a 24+ ACT. It's unexpectedly on our radar. When I was actually at LSU, they waived 90% of out of state for children of alumni - that program has been eliminated.
I have a degree from LSU and live in Mississippi. Child is interested in LSU, but the only thing I can find for alumni is the Tiger Legacy Scholarship, which is a stackable $1,000.
Not bad but no where near out of state tuition. My oldest was a 32 ACT, and went to Georgia Tech on a nice women in engineering scholarship. This one is a 28. If she can get to a 29, it's full tuition at Ole Miss and State, but just looking at options.
Alabama and Tennessee schools aren't really budging on out of state tuition. Florida schools are interesting with the cheap in-state tuition and easy qualification for out of state waivers. Louisiana Tech system is waiving out of state. Not a lot of consistency in the SEC states.

We are both Alumni and were told that if our son got a 30 on the ACT he could get in-state tuition. My response was if he gets a 30, he's going someone else for free. He did not score a 30.

Similar situation with Auburn. Despite both kids qualifying for the highest scholarship level, it was still cheaper by about $5k/year for them to go instate to either UTexas or Texas A&M, both of which are ranked above almost all of the other SEC schools in engineering. Off to ATM they went......
Only the academically weak schools and private schools will usually make up the difference in scholly money on merit, unless you check just the right diversity boxes.
Have to add that for anyone in Texas, you should look at the engineering academies that ATM does through several community colleges around the state. You get your first two years out of the way while saving around $4-5k per semester in tuition alone. The engineering classes are taught by ATM faculty. The transcripts say "Texas A&M" on them for xfer purposes.
