Lots of people are aware of this "Mandela Effect" where masses of people seem to misremember details from the past. A big one is people believe Ed McMahon gave away big checks for the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes. I thought so myself. When they are told he actually did it for a competitor company called "American Family" most people say WTF was that?

Even when shown an original commercial from back in the day, they just can't believe it.

But why is this? This explains why - they don't remember the actually commercials but dozens of incorrect references from other media. This is how it got drilled into their subconscious and why it's so confusing for people.

Large collection of media wrongfully attributing Ed McMahon to Publishers Clearing House:

It was Berenstein, not Berenstain, and I will meet anyone at Sonic who disagrees.

Count me in that number, Did Publisher’s Clearing House also have frequent commercials? Who was their spokesman?

It’s Berenstain and always has been. People just pronounced if “Beransteen” so they think it’s ein.

And Ed McMahon wasn’t PCH. He was the spokesman for a different one at the same time. But that’s one that got me though. That one and the Fruit of the Loom cornucopia one. That one may be my biggest one.

See below for PCH commercial. They had a Manila colored envelope as well. The guy in the second video claims he delivered the checks for Publishers Clearing House, but I don't remember him. Maybe he wasn't on the commercials like Ed was for American Family.
