Margaret Coon-Murdered in 1987 in Mandeville

Are any Ot'ers familiar with this murder of Margaret Coon who at the time was the Assistant DA. She was murdered in the Beau Chene gated golf community in Mandeville. Was anyone caught for this murder? Seems little was ever talked about on this case. Found this little piece but not a whole lot else
Her body was discovered at about 5:30 a.m. February 19 in the 600 block of North Beau Chene Drive in exclusive Beau Chene subdivision near Mandeville. Her Afghan dog was found standing by her body when investigators and ambulance attendants arrived on the scene, authorities said. For a short period of time, the dog would not allow authorities to approach the body, deputies said. The dog, Canulette said, was seen by neighbors running around loose. Afghans are a large breed of dog, but the breed has a reputation as being docile and not a protective animal.

I lived right across the street from there. It was a straight up hit out of the movies. She was out walking her dog and someone put one round right in the back of her head. No one was ever arrested and they never even had a suspect as far as I know.
She was by the condos a block from the club if I remember correctly. The security guards used to be a joke but they got real serious about the front gate after that.
ETA: Best guess was that someone dressed as a jogger just ran up on her from behind, popped her and kept going on foot. You used to be able to jump through a short run of woods right there and be out on the Highway. There is fencing now. Keep in mind that Mandeville PD had like two detectives back then and they weren't exactly Sherlock Holmes. Murder was unheard of. Hell, I think 1986 was when we got the stop light and the McDonald's.

I believe she was jogging and was stabbed once. Nothing was taken. It looked like a professional job.
ETA: Maybe she was shot but I thought I remember it as a stabbing. I was young though.

Meanwhile, a coroner’s report said that Coon was stabbed in the lower left side of the back, a sheriff’s spokesman said. A knife with a 7-inch blade was used in the murder and was pushed in to the hilt, said Chief Duputy Wallace Laird. Laird said the report said the bottom of the heart was pierced indicating the knife was pushed into the body in an upward motion. He said a bruise was noticed around the wound and a rib was cracked by the blow delivered by the murderer.

OK. I was always told she was shot. Pre-internet we just went off the initial reports.
LOL. Like I said, they weren't Sherlock Holmes.

Upward, catch the lung/heart. No screams.

I had family that lived in BC and always heard about the murder from them but never much detail. Was just curious

I lived in Covington Country Club at the time( which was the next subdivision over ). My parents used to walk in the evenings and I remember them talking about it.

Never had a serious suspect? Had to be connected to a case she was involved in huh?

Sounds like a inside job that was covered up.

There was a pretty well known local guy who wrote on that and other corruption related issues and published much information on his website generally pointing to a cover up but without tying it to any real motive. He subsequently, not that long ago, committed suicide although I don't think there was any relation to any of the stuff he was reporting on.

The Northshore had/has a lot more corruption than most realize or admit. Several people were made multi milti millionaires off of construction rackets alone.

quick google search tells me a lot of people suspected it was an inside job that the covington police department was behind because Margaret didn't roll with the good ol boy network
That's scary and sad. It's such a nice neighborhood.

There was some theories that a corrupt judge put the hit out.
