Wonder why the media never talks about him...

Was just talked about a few weeks ago on here, i believe.

Sure do. I was 8 years old at the time and they even had TV coverage on in our classroom at Alice Birney in Metairie.

There's a book all about the saga called "A Terrible Thunder", worth a read.

I remember it well. I was 14. We spent the entire Sunday watching it unfold live on television.

What were you doing in school on a Sunday?

Yep. It was the Howard Johnson at the time. It is now the Holiday Inn with the clarinet painted on the side.

Someone here a few weeks ago posted that their father was one of the officers there and they had to basically scoop that guys body parts off the roof.

My BIL was a retired Police Captain. He was a rookie Patrolman when this happened. He described part of his body as goo. I was in Jr. High School. I remember this like it was yesterday. It was covered on TV.

I'm kind of surprised that no Hollywood movie glorifying Mark Essex's terrorism has ever been made.

The way that they got him was, they figured out that Essex knew when the helicopter was leaving to circle around again, and that essex would slide down the steam pipe, run out on the roof, and shoot at the helo with his Ruger 44 carbine.
So, the helo pilot played like he was leaving, but spun around, and Antoine Saxx ( nopd in helo ) caught Essex out on the roof. Mowed him down.

For days afterwards, there were rumors of a 2nd shooter on the loose. News didn't travel as quickly as it does today. People were on edge for weeks.

Seems like there’s a thread about this every few months

Astounding event. I don’t think they ever confirmed it, but it looked like they used the helicopter’s 20mm cannon on him.
