Christians have a long history of trying to claim J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” as basically a Christian text.

With the new Amazon adaptation, The Rings of Power, there’s sure to be more rounds of it—all strangely disconnected from facts. Let’s take a look at Tolkien’s religiosity and the godless book that he wrote.

To listen to Christians, you’d think Tolkien was a clearly Christian writer.

There’s a shelf full of books with titles like:

- The Christian World of The Hobbit
- A Hobbit Devotional: Bilbo Baggins and the Bible
- Finding God in The Lord of the Rings
- Tolkien & Faith: Essays on Christian Truth in Middle-Earth.

Wasn’t this puzzling? Christians often declare sorcery a religious problem — and it’s prominent in Tolkien’s stories.

I find this funny, because Tolkien himself quite literally wrote this when describing Lord of the Rings:

Evangelicals will tag anything "Christian" if there is any semblance of spirituality in it. Go listen to "Christian musicians" and see the Gospel spilling out in their lyrics lol.

You know good and damn well fans near a century later know far better about the words, works, and intent than Tolkien himself did in the immediacy of authoring them.

Atheists will forever be at war with the Followers of Abraham. They cannot tolerate the existence of Jews, Muslims and Christians.

We must stand together and prepare for the inevitable war waged against us.

Like Tolkien knows more about his work than a journalist. Journalists are the smartest and most correct people on the planet.

Just ask them.

Where are these people? Whether the series was written with or without religion considered, does it matter? I have never considered it religious based, but I could see that argument. It's not relevant to anything to consider it one way or another. Anyone who cares one way or another, about it being religious or not, in a serious way has no problems in life or is retarded.

And all the people that never have, and never will, read his works will cheer on twitter about how diverse and inclusive it is.

Uh I don't think Muslims can tolerate the existence of Jews and Christians either.

Only a small, violent minority. Muslims believe Jesus was Divine and will be resurrected. We can work together.

If the Lord of the Rings is not Christian then why did Saint Peter put it in the Bible?

Look bro, at some point you have to stop giving tabloid rags clicks. Whether you praise or taunt is irrelevant to them.

Bro, this 24 year old English Lit major with a furry fetish knows more about Tolkien's work than Tolkien does.

I'm a big tolkien guy.

This is one of the stupid fkin narratives you see surrounding it to garner more attention for needless woke-ism. It's like people using his work believe that fans have to BELIEVE it's anti-god/woke in order for them to love it. His work is far too important to be mutated by this agenda. Moreover, there is no direct line in the sand with his fans. I see as many libs love it (as is) as I do conservatives. In fact, there seems to be an even larger amount of liberals. All of us are super loyal to his story NOT being bastardized for our times.

It will ultimately fail if they don't keep the integrity of his legendarium intact.

The story itself is actually bigger than religion. He used countless different literary influences for so many different characters, themes, and major plot elements. Yes, his devout Catholic upbringing is very evident for anyone with a mind of their own when reading it, but this whole movement to condition people to think Tolkien was woke is absurd and toilsome.

Just enjoy the dude's writing. It is unparalleled. No need to make it ANYTHING that it isn't.
