F-15EX will replace older F-15Cs and Ds and some F-22s. Full F-22 replacement is what is currently called the “Next Generation Air Dominance” (NGAD) program.

The old "A" model C-135s that burned water on takeoff would rattle windows for miles.

Isn't the f15ex replacing the f22?

From what I have read, the NGAD, is the F22 replacement, expected to be in service by 2030.

The hell they aren't. As others have said, you haven't been around them. The F-22 is a lot quieter, but damn that 35 is loud. Worked with them at Pax before they went to fleet.

Yes they do. Only 3 active stealth in our inventory. They all show on radar, even the stealth but its cross section is so small its like non-existent, but its there.

The rest show. Easily.

My guess is he's talking about not showing on ADS-B tracker.

Red Air contractors.

The River Rattlers out of NAS NO are one of two remaining navy squadrons trained on red air tactics. Basically the stuff Viper and Jester did in Top Gun. They cross train with contract companies that fly Kfir, A-4s, etc and fight Navy and Air Force pilots.

VCF-204, formerly VFA-204. I thought they flew the F-5N/F. Wasn't aware the USAF flew in Top Gun..unless 204 goes to Red Flag

Overpriced would be the F-35. It makes absolutely NO sense that the Navy would purchase and deploy single engine aircraft from a carrier. If I'm a naval aviator I'm sure as hell gonna want a little redundancy built into the part of the aircraft that's gonna bring me home over tens of thousands of square miles of open water!

guess i showed my arse with this post and have been duly reprimanded by the board. that's what i get for responding on a thread asking for "gurus" when i clearly am not. i have seen / heard what i thought were F-35s passing over several times and i remember thinking that they were surprisingly quiet, but i must have been mistaking F-22s for 35s

i'll get back to being a military ground-side guru and leave the aviation to the smarter people.

This is how F-35s takeoff and land vertically.

The vertical climb rate of the F35s were impressive! made the F15 look like it was hovering.

They bring them into Chennault on occasion and they are loud AF when they vertical land or take off. There’s zero doubt what aircraft is on the runway when you hear them.
