Not a Louisianan. I've been to the Endymion Extravaganza before. That seems to be nothing more than just a group of friends and family cutting a check to ride and party. Nothing more. Nothing less.
What are the most exclusive krewes?

Comus is technically a spinoff of one of those.

I could tell you, but we're pretty exclusive.

In December 1856, six Anglo-American[1] New Orleans businessmen gathered at a club room above the now-defunct Gem Restaurant in New Orleans' French Quarter to organize a secret society to observe Mardi Gras in a less crude fashion.[2] The inspiration for the name came from John Milton's Lord of Misrule in his masque Comus. Part of the inspiration for the parade was a Mobile, Alabama, Carnival mystic society, with annual parades, called the Cowbellion de Rakin Society (from 1830),[3] of which businessman Joseph Ellison was a member.[3]

I'd say Endymion recently passed Bacchus do to their better affiliation with the Saints and Big "C" celebrities. Those would be 1-2 or 2-1, everyone agree?
Still kicking myself for passing on a chance to get in Bacchus back in 06 07 - timing was poor for me but I should have made it happen regardless.

The Driftwood parade in Kenner

Not copied off of Mobile, but a Mobilian came to New Orleans and started it.
Cowbellion de Rakin comes from the fact that one of its founders owned a hardware/general store.
To this day, the Comus ball sounds like a Moo State game because of the cowbells. Watching snooty uptowners ringing cow bells is kind of ridiculous, which is the point of Mardi Gras.
