My dog Stew killed a 15-20lb raccoon this morning. Jeez what a ruckus. I was making coffee about 4:30 this morning and Stew usually comes back to the back door quickly after pissing. He didn’t return, so I opened the door and heard this huge squealing ruckus down in the lower back yard. I thought it may have been a cat so I went down to check it out (it was still dark) and break it up. I saw it was a raccoon and fruitlessly tried to break it up (with a shovel), because raccoons don’t back down once engaged in my experience. I heard Stew yelp for about 5 seconds through the whole thing but the tables quickly turned before I could intervene. The whole thing lasted about 20 minutes. Stew had a bit of blood on his chest but it wasn’t from him. He's also cut up pretty good on his snout and I treated those cuts with peroxide. Coons can kill dogs double their size. They kill cats for sport, and one of their "go-to" moves is to scratch and gouge their adversary's eyes out with their claws. Adrenaline woke my arse right up. No caffeine needed.

Dry a foot out and make a lucky raccoons foot key chain.

I saw a young coon with one leg in a trap fend off a full grown redbone hound. They are tough as hell.

I have a 125lb Cane Corso, he’s a killing machine when something hurts him, mostly he likes to play with other animals. He’s engaged a couple copperheads and shakes them into two pieces. Possums, he’ll grab them and when they play dead he just puts them down. But he caught a coon once and a nutria in the same week, he literally shook them to pieces in 4/5 violent shakes,,,,one of the most violent dog attacks I’ve ever seen.

Who are you, Michael Vick?

Glad you were entertained and couldn't wait to run to the OT and blab about it.

Mine were whining at the back door one night(a corgi, wheaten terrier and French mastiff), so I let them out. As soon as opened the door, I noticed a large coon nonchalantly walking away from my back door.

I didn’t even wait around, immediately ran to grab my shoes so I could try to break it up before a huge vet bill ensued. As I ran out the back door I expected to hear the coon/dogs going wild, but it was relatively silent. About 50 feet from the door I noticed the group. The corgi had a leg, the wheaten had a leg and the mastiff had it by its neck. It was basically lifeless by the time I got out there, 20 seconds after the fight started. I have to admit, I was pretty surprised and proud they could end a coon that quickly. I’ve seen plenty of hunting dog videos that took much longer than that, and here my three house pets annihilated that thing in no time.

40-ish pound Terrier mix. And for those who inquired he's up to date on rabies. That was a hell of a way to wake up this morning.

I had a blue heeler for 15 years, and she was a killing machine. Every week she would drag her latest kill onto the front porch to show us. Neighborhood Cats, pond geese, squirrels, coons, possums, it goes on and on.

Not at all. It was really nerve-racking but I couldn't break it up. I thought about getting my .38 and shooting the coon but I was afraid I may hit my dog on accident. Plus it was dark and the lights don't hit this area of the yard.

When the wife would go to the chicken coop he had a place to stand and wait for the mice to exit the pen. Would catch them in mid air. He was our guard dog til we retired him last year. He now lives in the house.

if the racoon was a male make one of these:

"Hillbilly Toothpick" is the term used for penis bones that have been removed and utilized for toothpicks or decoration (mainly on baseball and cowboy hats). Typically they are the penis bones from raccoons.
