This just might be the toughest and most complex mission NASA astronauts have done since the Apollo missions. The mission of the Artemis program's second manned spaceflight will be to successfully test the lunar landing systems the project will employ to land on the surface of the moon while in earth orbit. A lot has to go right for the mission to be deemed a success so that Artemis IV can land here in the next few years.

Here are the four brave souls who have been chosen to carry out that mission:

Of course you have your usual suspects screaming on social media about there being too much testosterone in this photograph.

Why?

Looks like they sending the males on the one nobody will remember so the females get the one that will be.

I like it, no women, just 2 white men, a black man, and an albino for good luck.

SJWs are retarded. There are no women on this mission because it’s a forgettable low earth orbit mission and they’re saving the box checkers for the moon mission. SJWs don’t realize this mission is all men so NASA can be SJW on the next one.

True dat. Artemis III will get barely any headlines when it goes up. The mission might be the most important one so far, but it's staying in low earth orbit so there won't be as much coverage for Artemis III as there will be for Artemis IV.

No screwing around with this mission. They'll be orbiting for 2 weeks doing multiple docking tests with SpaceX and Blue Origin landers, testing suits, and other stuff. This mission fails, no moon before 2028.

I get we can’t really replicate Apollo missions for many reasons but I feel like we can learn a lot of techniques from them

Have a feeling it’s randoms but doubt it’s majority considering these missions have been the opposite polarizing

Stop giving random people credit to get a response out of you

This is basically the Apollo 9 of the Artemis program.

It’s not the techniques they are testing. It’s validating the hardware.

They got a huge list of action items to work on from Artemis 2

Exactly. In terms of missions they are racing through testing phases about 3x times faster and you still have people bitching “why no moon now?”

Here is a breakdown of the specific crew members assigned to this mission:

Commander Randy Bresnik (NASA): A former U.S. Marine Corps test pilot who previously commanded an expedition to the International Space Station.

Pilot Luca Parmitano (ESA): An Italian astronaut and veteran test pilot who previously served as an ISS commander for the European Space Agency.

Mission Specialist Andre Douglas (NASA): A former Coast Guard officer and systems engineer who served as a backup on the Artemis II mission. This will be his first spaceflight.

Mission Specialist Frank Rubio (NASA): A U.S. Army aviator and flight surgeon. He set the record for the single longest spaceflight by an American, spending 371 consecutive days in orbit

I'd say they're ever so slightly well qualified.

and if you're wondering if the black man is the token, think again.

quote:

Andre Douglas (born December 11, 1985) is an American systems engineer, a Coast Guard Reserve officer, and NASA astronaut, and was chosen as a backup crew member for the Artemis II mission under NASA's Artemis program. In 2026, he was announced as a mission specialist on the Artemis III mission.

Personal life and education

He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 2008, where he also served as regimental commander.

Douglas later completed four post-graduate degrees: a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in naval architecture and marine engineering, both from the University of Michigan (2012), a master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from Johns Hopkins University (2019), and a doctorate in systems engineering from George Washington University (2021)
