2 other high energy dance clubs in Laffy during late 80’s - early 90’s were Signatures and Club Spritz. Both were located on Johnston Street where Best Buy is.

Way back long ago it was El Torito. But has been Tamps ever since. One of the long-standing bartenders is a school teacher, don't know if he is still there, but have seen him at other bars, is probably looking at retirement about now. Really good dude. It's like we've all grown up together.

Nah downtown Lafayette was great til about 2011. I was going downtown while in high school in 06-09. The strip was fun with the keg and the pub, just gross. There was also shanahans I believe, and they had what would you do for $100. Girls would get naked lick whip cream off each other and shite like that. That stopped being a place when I got out of high school though. Now it’s a gay bar called Bolt. I went with my girlfriend to watch a drag show there. About 5 guys bought me drinks, would go again. Cheapest night out I’ve had.
Had a lot of good times. Now the only spots I occasionally go to (prior to the rona) were the legends annex and sometimes green room for pool. The JSP side bar is also decent.
Tap Room, Corner Bar, Corner Bar Youngsville, Pour are all really nice, though none are downtown. I like Artmosphere and Blue Moon Saloon for live music.

Back in the day (90’s) Friday night karaoke at Tampico was pretty popular hangout for the single ladies. I remember a waiter named Sergio who also worked at Durel’s in the Acadiana Mall. Been awhile since I’ve eaten at Tampico mainly because Agave is right around the corner

Wait. What?

And if anyone remembers the speckled white doves that were around in 2000-2002, hope you had fun.

People got really dressed up to go to the plaza back in the day. Back when Kenneth Cole pants and shiny shirts were a thing

Wait. What?
It did say that.

It looks and sounds incomprehensible because the consecutive coordinate, compound adjective, "gum-chewing" that typically goes either before or after "well dressed" was left out.

Bro, hit up judice inn for a double patty, gotta pickup my button downs from the dry cleaners. Work out. Shower with axe body gel so you know I smell rich. Shots of Canadian whisky, chase with red bull, rinse repeat. Doors just open when I walk into plaza. Speakers thumping. Didn’t know what to expect when the drop from “Sittin’ on top of the world” hit. Boom CO2 weaving between my frosted tips. Yeah I took her home. Yea, her too. And we’ll do it all again on Saturday.
Damn.
Damn.

Lafayette in the 90's was a blast. In the mid 90's the Cajundome was a prime spot for major acts. Bands had pretty much stopped going to LSU(Pete Maravich)Assembly Center. GNR in Jan 92 was probably the last big show there & New Orleans Arena(Smoothie King Center) didn't open until late 97 so the Cajundome in Lafayette was probably the biggest arena between Houston & the Gulf Coast. I saw Bush, Rod Stewart, Metallica, & Prince at the Cajundome in that time period.

I hope everyone watched the video about the night Prince played there! I was at his show in the Cajun dome that night.
Funny story incoming—> My buddy was huge fan of Prince and told me if he every came around that we were going. Well he did and we got tickets. On our way to the show we stopped at Circuit City on Johnston St. We had hardly any money on us and we we came out of the store... I realized I locked my keys in my car! I saw the look of horror on my friends face. I walked back into CC and used their phone. Of course I had no cell phone in 97’. I called pop a lock and told them that I had a remote controlled car and a hand held police scanner in my trunk for collateral. They showed up and saved the day!
The next day I went back and picked up my things. I still have that RC car.

Was it Neo’s? Down towards Gardere? Maybe that’s what I’m thinking of.
It was both. Opened as The Viper for a while and closed/reopened as Neo's.
Had themselves a murder(stabbing) in there and closed down permanently.

Can remember many nights in the late 80's of walking from dorm over to the strip. Thurs night drink till you drop. Then go get a fat greasy burger from the dude cooking on his pit by the car dealership. Lol
Good Times
And made it to Kingfish once, walked out about 7am. Crazy night. Still don't know where the hell that place was.

Man, I had forgotten it was called El Torito. I loved Tenacious Tuesdays at Poets.
