From cityofdestin.com:
The City of Destin does not prohibit the placement of a pop up canopy on beaches within the city limits. Please note that leaving canopies on the beaches overnight may interfere with the beach cleaning services or may impede possible turtle nesting activities.

1 Ratchet Strap.
1 screw anchor buried deep into hard sand.
Ratchet strap goes to top of tent and ratchet to give just enough resistance.

Just got back from Gulf Shores last week. We Rented 1 umbrella and then put 3 more around it. That's way better than one of those damn tents, IMO.

Just got back from 30a and one family set theirs up every day. Saw them in old Seagrove and on Grayton.
We just rented an um fella and chairs, but the guys were frickIng terrible to deal with. They put us in shitty spots every day, we we just moved the cards or The whole setup.

That was last years decision. I think they went on to say they revised the size for this year:
"We learned throughout the year that a lot of beach goers liked to be able to use the pop-up style tent and so a lot of the revisions today made that max size a 10 by 10 pop-up style tent as well as mandated that they be used on the top 1/3 of the beach," Kellenberger said.

I’m not sure why people think it’s trashy. I think it’s classier to setup your own space and take up the room you need rather than be stuck next to some crying baby or little kid throwing sand everywhere.
I guess you can’t afford to buy a pop up canopy.

The guy talking about a crowded public beach is gonna act like other people are poor.

One of the reasons I don't go to the beach anymore.
People claiming space on the beach ruined the experience for me.

You're going to have get out early, the family who set up at Seagrove did it before the umbrella guys got out. They packed it up before dark, and honestly...it wasn't trashy...they weren't trashy. I only saw one there, and they were likely owners. You may have trouble setting up that in front of someone else's house.

A pop up tent costs about the same as a chair rental for two days

Saw a guy lose a finger trying to save a tent from flying down the beach.

Few things:
OP reference to "Destin" would need clarification. As Geauxjo noted, there are no restrictions in the actual City of Destin (which is entirely in Okaloosa County).
But, what a lot of people call "Destin" is actually in Walton County (Seascape, Miramar Beach, Sandestin) and as tgrbaitn08 linked, there are some restrictions:
Regarding that quote, when did it become acceptable to call a 'canopy' a 'tent'? Heard people and even public officials in New Orleans and these beach communities refer to them as "tents" (stupid Mitch Landrieu even referred to them as "tents without sides"). That irks me to no end... It's very simple, people: a tent has sides and is used for camping or full shelter. A canopy has no sides, just a roof, and is made for shade or rain protection only.
Kudos to all on this thread for referring to them correctly...

What's all the canopy talk? Can we please call them tents (or pop-up tents)?
