550 million grant awarded to build the almost 3.7 billion dollar bridge over the Mobile River...

The road way at 215 feet above the river will make it the highest in the United states. Bye Bye slow traffic in Downtown Mobile!

Hopefully, they can start soon ...probably won't be ready in time

..edit...O yeah the plan is to build a bicycle and walking path along side of the outside lanes...Who the hell is going to ride their bicycle 215 ft on a bridge

Honking on a bridge just won't be the same.

I know it’s a good thing but the tunnels are something I’ll miss from being a kid headed to the beach on vacation. Going through those and coming out on the other side to see the battleship was always a highlight of the drive down.

My dad fricking hated it though because of traffic

Or spraying windshield washer fluid so the yokels think the tunnel is leaking.

leave the tunnel as a toll option, for the nostalgia, like the smoking monkey at fun fair park.

I think they are going to keep the tunnels for an alternate route. So you still have an option to go through them. I'm sure the new bridge will have a toll

And that won’t change. Louisiana is a politically corrupt place. There’s a reason Alabama is ahead of us, and able to build a new bridge. It pains me as someone who loves Louisiana to admit this.

My kids are to young to hold their breath for long so my wife decided a few years ago to make it a "dance" tunnel and as corny as it is, its the best part of our drive to the beach. Both kids light up and dance their hearts. I will miss the dance tunnel. I will not miss the traffic.

How will the dad joke of holding your breath work on a bridge?
