I live in a small town in the Northeast and our local magazine just had a huge article promoting tourism in New Orleans. If I didn't know any better, I would think that New Orleans is wonderful safe place to visit. I was actually surprised about the quality of the article

Glanced at it and saw this, "While at Tulane..."

I'm good, thanks.

My wife (no pics) went in June and wasn’t robbed, murdered or kidnapped. That’s all I have.

NOLA has to advertise far enough away that people don't know any better.

You’re surprised that an advertisement designed to attract tourist to New Orleans only highlights the good things about the city?

Edit: just read the article. It’s not the worst write up I’ve seen as far as recommendations. It’s also not that weird that the article wound up in your local small town magazine. The author is a Tulane alum and has a house in New Orleans. My guess is it’s doubling as a Tulane ad.

NOLA: Stay for a weekend or until you get murdered. Whichever comes first!

I’ve talked so many friends and family members into changing travel plans from NOLA to somewhere else. I don’t want them to have a higher likelihood of being victims to violent crime.

You don't seem to know any better. New Orleans is a wonderful, generally safe place to visit.
