She essentially states that Southerners, specifically stated Kentucky, Mississippi, and Alabama, are too dumb and poor to be able to help themselves and must have federal FEMA assistance

I took that as too poor. You’d have to read into that to think “too dumb.”
But she sucks and is a terrible journalist who’s controlled by DC.

she said poor not dumb. Be truthful

The "poor" states will survive by neighbor helping neighbor, hard manual labor, and stoic determination. The rich elitists can't screw in a light bulb and would sit and cry that no one is helping them.

I love it. She looked like a fool throughout the interview. Her arrogance and condescending remarks, tone and gestures will not be lost on any sane person.

Everyone knows what they mean when they use poor.
Eta: And frankly, southerners are a million times more equipped to deal with disaster than Yankees or left coasters.

As a first responder that has worked through every natural disaster in Baton Rouge for the past 20 years, I can say without hesitation she wouldn’t make it a week in my shoes.
Her contempt is both insulting and without merit. I speak for many when I simply say, frick her.

It's amazing that CBS News is still in business - they have been an absolute joke since the Dan Rather crap.

If FEMA gets eliminated, that will most certainly be put to the test. For perspective, FEMA did offer prescription assistance to the uninsured in NC following Helene as well as temporary housing. Are deep south states capable of those things by themselves?

She's a white woman on a national news network. That automatically makes her dumber than most Americans

The Federal Government will still fund the disasters. They will give it to Alabama department emergency management directly, for example. And yes, all of these States are well prepared for disasters in their states.

Someone want to explain to her the difference between avg annual income per capita and States income? I believe Kentucky is top 5 in annual surplus just last year and most of the States running long term deficits are Illinois, NY, NJ and Hawaii….what do those 4 have in common??

Wow, prescription insurance. That's real helpful after your house floats down the river.

Well, we may be dumb and poor, but not dumb and poor enough to not have water in our fire hydrants.

People make less in the south because cost of living is lower.

Real question, why are poor Southerners so sensitive?
