I remember seeing a thread on this in past but couldn't find. This look like little white flies and pop up when you walk on the grass near them. Grass is St. Augustine.
What is the proper treatment to get rid of these things?

If they look like this:
- they're termite swarmers, baw. Call Orkin or Terminix.

Head to a garden shop and tell them. You need to spray a pesticide in the gras ASAP. The moths lay eggs and when the larva hatch, they will eat your grass and create brown spots. Not that big a deal but you have to spray some pesticide (I can't think of the name)

Those are chinch bugs. They will suck your lawn dry.

Moth webworms. Like others have said will eat your lawn up and leave dead patches for months. Just google for treatment

Go buy something with the active ingredient of permethrin or bifenthrin. "Talstar" is an over the counter name.

Maybe it's sod webworms. The moths look like this:

there is no practical way to deal with the moths, and they do not do the damage. We have to wait until the caterpillars hatch in the lawn and start feeding on the grass before spraying an insecticide will effectively control this pest. Talstar (bifenthrin) is very effective in killing the caterpillars (not the moths). There is no practical way to deal with the moths.

They are leafhoppers. I have them too and they are harmless.
The webworms and moths won't be around til August and they are the bad ones.
