OT Plumbers - Large pool chlorine tablets in toilet tanks - too much?

I have a large quantity of chlorine tablets with no use for them. Do you think they will work in the toilet tanks or would it be too much chlorine?

Have to mix some brake fluid in there to make them work right

It will destroy the mechanisms.

I've tried and it was too much. The bathroom smelled like a gas chamber.

I'd say way too much, you can reduce the potency of said tablets by soaking in diesel for about 30 min

I have actually bought some toilet cleaners that were just that...a big damn chlorine tablet that you put in the tank.
fwiw, it worked very well...toilet stayed clean as a damn whistle. however, after a few years of it, a couple of plastic parts in the tank were degraded by using that heavy dose of chlorine.
if I were in your situation, I would wait until summer and then try to sell them to a pool owner.

Yeah, he can hang outside of a pool supply store, walk up to customers, and say, "hey man, I got some extra chlorine tabs. You interested? Real cheap."

When we bought our new house we used clorox tablets in the thank. After a few months, the clorox started attacking the rubber flippy valve thing and it allowed water to escape constantly into the bowl.
I immediately quit using them since it was obvious that the clorox would kills the rubber seals in the supply tank with obvious results. Keep in mind this was a brand new house with new fixtures.
I would not recommend using those pool chlorine tablets.

Well those tabs are designed to sanitize 10,000 gallons of water at a time, but sure, go ahead and toss it in a 3 gallon tank.

Quarter them, or smaller.

Probably destroy the toilet and your house will reek of chlorine for days

I'd be happy to take them off your hands if you decide against this toilet endeavor, I'm buying them pretty regularly.

sell them on CL or Nextdoor or something, they will ruin any rubber in your tank. They are made to disperse in thousands of gallons, not sit in a three gallon tank. You will also have a bathroom that smells like a indoor pool.

I take a hammer and break them up. Place a small piece in the tank. No big deal.
