So I have been wanting to get into a high end watch lately but have been dicking around with it.

Now I have an event this weekend that I'd like to have something for. This won't be my high-end purchase, as I'd like to take my time on that and learn a bunch more.

What would you all recommend for something to get in a day or two? Jewelry store? New? Used? Pawn shop? Ebay+NextDayAir?

I want to find a general use keeper, not something throw-away or returnable.

Budget $500-$1500?

Thouhgts?

I think Hamilton watches are popular around here in that price range

Look at Oris or Hamilton for that budget.

I think Stowa are the coolest watches for that price…see if someone on eBay will overnight one to you.

Thanks, looking now.

Is trying to get something with complications in this price range silly?

Yes. Those are ETA or similar movements. You’re buying the case/dial/style. They can theoretically be fixed at almost any watch shop.

Jomashop offers overnight shipping, I think it is reasonable like $30 or so.

Without knowing what type of watch you want and if you want quartz or mechanical it is hard to make a suggestion because it is just throwing darts blindly.

Give us an idea what you are looking for, there are lots of options in the price range although a lot of them are out due to the tight timeframe.

Stowa kind of looks like Maratac. LINK

Always thought they looked nice, have no idea if they really are though.

A marathon GSAR should be around the middle of that price range.

You aren't getting any fancy in house movement stuff in that price range behind seiko I don't think. For me, worrying about the guts is kinda silly. You're adding several thousand dollars to start getting into Rolex, grand seiko, omega, etc.

Obtuse1 is your man for all watch information.

You may have dicked around too long for getting something within 24-48 hrs though.

Long Island Watch might overnight you one of those as well.

Problem is, I've never worn a watch, so I have no idea what I want. I'm in my 50's so more of a late-career daily wear watch. First of a collection I would like to begin to create.

Trying to think of an analogy that would help.
