Does "Baton Rouge" have some word structure that makes it suited to music lyrics?

I can't think of another city besides "Nashville" in so many songs?

uh, New Orleans?

New York, Chicago, San Francisco... going back to Tin Pan Alley many cities are mentioned more often than BR

Or are you just talking about tractor rap of the last ten years?

Huey Lewis mentioned Baton Rouge in “Heart of Rock and Roll” and I know there are others I can’t think of right now.

It’s a state capital of a fairly unique state at the end of the largest river system in North America.

Thinking off top of my head…

Callin Baton Rouge
Bobby McGee.

There’s nothing particularly special about Baton Rouge I don’t think. It’s got 3 syllables, and not many cities end with that sound, so it’s unique like that. But you wouldn’t randomly choose to use Baton Rouge in a song over another place, I don’t think.

I'm always a little surprised it's mentioned at all even tho it's the cap and all. Shreveport is rarer.

Chuck Berry:

New York, Los Angeles, oh, how I yearned for you
Detroit, Chicago, Chattanooga, Baton Rouge
Let alone just to be at my home back in ol' St. Lou

Got a few new pop country songs with it in there. John Mayer has it in one of his for whatever reason. And most Lil Boosie songs

"Goin' Back To Louisiana"

She used to live in Shreveport*,
But then she moved
Bet you ten to one she's gone to Baton Rouge
I'm gonna look her up, if you know what I mean
If I have to go as far as New Orleans

*How many songs mention that city?

I've Been Everywhere, Hank Snow and numerous others.

Fun fact, it was originally an Australian song with Australian names. It's since been done referring to many other countries, including most of Europe and even India.

Does not mention Baton Rouge. Mentions Louisiana, Shreveport, and Ferriday.
