Parents of woman found dead on couch indicted again

TLDR: first indictment was quashed due to the wording of the indictment.

quote:

CLINTON, La. (WAFB) - The parents of a woman found dead on a couch were indicted again for second-degree murder on Monday, June 19, according to prosecutors.

The incident came after a district judge dropped murder charges for the parents of 36-year-old Lacey Fletcher. She was found deceased at her parents’ home in Slaughter on January 3, 2022.

District Attorney Sam D’Aquilla brought the case back before a different grand jury, leading to the indictment on Monday, June 19.

Authorities found Fletcher lying on a 1960's-style sofa with urine and feces everywhere around her. The coroner’s office explained that the woman’s parents were away on a weekend trip when she died. The parents reportedly claimed their daughter had extreme social anxiety and autism.

A grand jury of 12 in Clinton charged Lacey Fletcher’s parents, Clay and Sheila Fletcher, with second-degree murder on May 2, 2022.

The couple was expected to stand trial for the charges later this month.

But at a hearing on May 30, District Judge Kathryn Jones with the 20th JDC, granted a motion to quash the indictment. That action came after questions regarding the wording of the indictment by defense attorneys.

D’Aquilla told WAFB the defense brought up three reasons to quash the indictment. The first was for no specific intent, the judge denied that reason. The second was not signed by the foreperson, the judge denied that one. And the third was the wording on the indictment, which the judge granted.

As a disabled person myself: tie their necks to a train track.

Sometimes I forget how lucky I am to have a family that gives a damn. What an awful scenario

Fused to the couch after a weekend? I'm confused.

So was she so mentally ill that she needed full time supervision, is that the issue or is it confirmed?

I waited until after I finished lunch

This is terrible -her parents did not care, there are programs for disabled people that they could’ve put her in to give themselves a break

They should be tied to a sofa and have excrement poured on them at hourly intervals for the rest of their lives

I'm so confused. How old was this girl? How mentally ill was she? Did the parents actually kill her or just leave her for dead?

The 1 article in the OP was pretty bad. It never said how she died. It made it seem like the parents went away from the weekend, and the person then died, seemingly due to the neglect from that weekend.

But doing a little more googling, it sounds like they basically just kinda literally let her rot on the sofa for a long time. Here's a couple of quotes:

quote:

What was left of Lacey's body was found on an old sofa, partially naked and covered in urine, feces, and maggots, according to cops, and weighed just 96 pounds, The U.S. Sun reported.

The whole room reeked and the floor underneath the couch was buckling, sources told WBRZ.

The local coroner told the outlet that Lacey had "melted" to the couch and that sofa material and feces were found in her stomach.
quote:

Birkham told D’Aquilla, the district attorney, that Lacey died from "severe medical neglect, which led to chronic malnutrition, acute starvation, immobility, acute ulcer formation, osteomyelitis which is a bone infection which led finally to sepsis,"

What was her disability? I've seen aspergers and social anxiety, but those aren't things that would incapacitate a 24-36 year old. If those are the extent of her disabilities, this was a decision she made.

Is that an imprint of the Messiah on the couch? I know you don't want to, but take a second look.

Aside from being the shittiest of human beings for letting their daughter just sit there and rot, what kind of person lives with that, walking by her daily and the smell.

There are so many layers of disgusting in this story. It's unbelievable.
