Once Upon a Time in the West

Prohibition: Such a ridiculous time in American History. The only thing it brought about was the meteoric rise of the Mafia as they made hundreds of millions of dollars smuggling in and selling booze to the people of the U.S.
Enough money to corrupt police forces, judges, government officials etc. as they turned their backs and ignored what was going on around them and allowed the Mafia to infiltrate and overtake legitimate businesses to get their hands into just about every aspect of everyday life----------and not in a good way.

True, but that picture was taken in 1961.

And there are STILL dry counties all over this country to this day. I lived just outside of Jackson, MS back in the early 70's and there were dry counties around that area. Just shows how far a reach some religions have over an entire population.

I live in a dry county. It takes 45 minutes to get to the nearest liquor store on a curvy 2 lane highway through the mountains. Many lives are lost due to drunk people driving so far to get more booze or getting drunk on the long drive back.
One dry county had so many drunk driving deaths they would set up road blocks every Saturday night to check sobriety. They finally made that county wet about 15 years ago and the stats show an average of 15 less drunk driving deaths each year.
Our entire state still has no alcohol sales on Sunday and Christmas day. Walmart has to rope off the entire beer section ever saturday night at midnight

And when I tell people about my town having bars open 24/7/365 and having drive-thru daiquiri shops, the look at me like I have 2 heads.
