ATLANTA — The FBI has confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that it has joined Atlanta police department’s investigation into the gruesome killing of a woman in Piedmont Park.
Katie Janness and her dog were stabbed to death early Wednesday morning in what police described as a “gruesome” scene.
Some pretty crazy rumors out there, including supposed comments by APD and the DA's office that this was not a normal murder scene.
Starting this in case any of our crime sleuths want to contribute as this develops. Certainly doesn't seem like the normal hoodrat crime we're used to in Atlanta.

From what I have read thus far, the APD are being exceptionally tight-lipped on this one so far given the gravity of the situation. APD found the body to be horribly mutilated.

Have they interviewed the butler?

Mostly peaceful park.
Per CBS 46
Janness was a bartender at Campagnola, near 10th and Piedmont, for half a decade. Skinner was one of her regular customers. He said Janness went by Katie, for short.
“She was a very sweet person, a little geeky,” he said. “It’s really shocking that something like this would happen to somebody who was such a sweet and just kind soul.”
Skinner, who also lives in Midtown, said he often saw Janness walking her dog in the neighborhood.
“She routinely walked her dog late at night because she typically worked night shift,” he said. I think maybe she had a sense the park was safer than it is, especially now with everything that’s going on.” LINK

APD released photos of possible witnesses they want to speak with
Interested in seeing if anything jumps out to anyone from the photos...

We talking about a Jack the Ripper style slaying?
Posted on 8/3/21 at 10:58 am to Pettifogger
Yes- has a jack The Ripper feel. Makes you wonder how this guy had time to do what he did to the body in public.

The very first story to come out on WSB used language like "mutilated" and "disfugured" before being asked to dial back some of the descriptions, presumably by police.
Also here's my already running thread about this-

Similar to that and also the Gainesville guy.
Personally, I want to know where Phantom Menace was when this took place.

Likely because if they in fact believe it may be a serial killer like what’s being rumored… they don’t want any false confessions. You see this with almost any serial killer case… So many “confessions” but they get the details wrong. If they don’t have a lot to go by, they may only have details on the state of mutilation.

Also, there was a murder in a park in Gwinnett County on Wednesday. An 18 year old girl was shot. For those unaware, Gwinnett is about 30 or so minutes north of Atlanta. This is why there are rumors that it could all be connected and a serial killer.

Not gonna lie, looks like the dude in the last picture has blood all over his wifebeater and is probably trying to get a homie to pick him up on his phone. If they found a bloody shirt somewhere in the park, this is my prime suspect

This is what I was looking for - wanted to see if that looked like blood to others
Showed my wife and she was like "uh yeah maybe start by talking to the guy with blood all over him?"
