I mean that’s huge. I’d imagine the next pope is likely to be more liberal than he.

the people who selected him were all appointed by john paul ii and benedict.

History says they’ll shift to a more conservative pontiff to move things back to the center after being so far left the past 12 years.

Can the church save itself from irrelevance by rejecting the woke ideology of the left?

Pope Francis would approve of that too.

Oh well, life goes on. Hopefully the next pope does everything he can to remove the pedophiles from his church.

I agree

I really don’t have a problem with a pope being liberal. I think the foundation of Christian belief aligns with socially liberal belief. The Catholic Church can be particularly susceptible to hypocrisy as it has a lot of material wealth.

America, is particularly challenging to that fundamental social liberal belief as we are a fairly materialistic culture. We like to own things. We live a very secular existence. God tends to be less emphasized except for the desire to get stuff to make us richer.
We don’t like the part of Christianity that calls for us to do for others and put God before all else. We especially struggle to follow the Catholic call to take up your cross and cast aside material things.

Generally, we’ve gotten along fine with the past popes as long as they don’t call us out. Francis did that and people tend to get defensive when that happens. They feel judged. He opened the door to the churches own hypocrisy.

The next pope can be liberal but that doesn’t mean he has to be judgemental. It’s a fine line between being a religious leader who represents the teachings of Jesus and yet relies on people to give it money, many of which, lead a secular life.

I just hope they pick someone who can walk that fine line better than Francis did.

He did NOT. He was a universalist who stated as much in Singapore. Universalism and its approval will send many to Hell.

“ The Pope's Remarks:
In a speech at an interreligious meeting, Pope Francis stated that all religions are paths to God, comparing them to different languages or idioms used to reach the same destination. He emphasized that God is God for everyone, and therefore, we are all God's children.
Universalism Defined:
Universalism, in this context, refers to the idea that all people, regardless of their religious beliefs, are ultimately saved or reconciled with God.
Catholic Doctrine:
Traditionally, the Catholic Church teaches that salvation is achieved through faith in Jesus Christ and adherence to his teachings. ”

Got to meet him briefly in 2018.

My wife and I gave him a Jesuit New Orleans shirt.

I know, cool story bro.

Because it’s been the tradition of the church for more than 1600 years, since the Vulgate was translated.

The view of most traditional Catholics isn’t that the mass should be in Latin only, but that the tradition of the Tridentine Rite should be preserved. There’s also more to the rite than just speaking in Latin.

Francis’s restricting, or even banning, that mass from being an option is very concerning.

Pope under 55-60 would be nice but we will end up getting another 75 year old.

I think the last ‘young’ Pope we’ll ever see was JPII. My impression is that the Church doesn’t want a Pope to possibly reign for decades. I could be wrong, but I just figured that’s why they always choose one that’s into his 70’s

Pope Francis' last encyclical on the sacred heart of Jesus certainly does teach the message of Christ.

The pope's statements in Singapore were poorly worded for sure, but he did not say
quote:

that all people, regardless of their religious beliefs, are ultimately saved or reconciled with God.

Yes he also had other poorly nuanced things to say over the years, and some of those things also got twisted by media.

Pray that the cardinals are guided by the holy spirit as the elect the next pope.

Jesus spoke Aramaic, why not have the service in that? The Latin usage was simply because the Catholic Church originated from Rome, and that is the language they spoke. Any mass should be in the congregation’s language so they can understand the teachings. Tradition can be important, but teaching in a dead language isn’t.

Pretty much this. I don’t get clamoring for the Latin mass outside of nostalgia from old people.

Nah he was in on covering and hiding Benedicts tract record in hiding pedo priest and that is part of the reason he was kinda his hand picked successor.

He was a huge liberal and moved the church away from the core values to be more inclusive.

These zealots have tainted the church and it needs to be flushed out and do a hard restart.

I know that the pope is the physical form of God on earth but would you want God to part of rape and pedophilia and then when you can do the right thing and expose it you turn a blind eye and move the predator to another parish to ruin more lives.

May God have mercy on his soul
