Jesus Christ would have shared a meal with those people as well

Jesus ate with tax collectors and sinners.

Mt 9: 12-13
quote:

“Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. Go and learn the meaning of the words,f ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’* I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”

Any mass should be in the congregation’s language so they can understand the teachings. Tradition can be important, but teaching in a dead language isn’t.

I believe the option for either should remain. The Catholic Mass has a lot of qualities to it, and while “teaching” may be one of them, it isn’t the primary intention. Mass is a celebration of prayer and worship. It is a ceremonial ritual, which makes keeping a tradition that has lasted for more than 1600 years an important essence.

Like I said, the old mass is more than just “speaking in Latin.” It should sadden any Catholic, that while restricting the Tridentine Mass from being celebrated, that in a century or two, the mass could die out altogether. Tradition is the reason the faith has survived for so long. Destroying it, by some, can be viewed as sacrilegious.

Christ did not approve of the sins. He befriended and loved them to REPENT.

The ending of that movie is disgusting.

I was honestly more ticked off by Stanley Tucci's character being Joseph Bernardin on steroids.

Not catholic, but RIP.

From an outsider's perspective, he did a lot to heal the Catholic church by causing folks to take their focus off of an organization with many sordid revelations coming to light and instead pushed the spotlight toward an adaptive religion there to support the maligned in a world increasingly based on stratification.

Point being, he seemed like a genuinely good man. I'm obviously indifferent to his actions within the historical context of the Catholic church, so my outside opinion could very well clash with orthodox Catholic feelings.

What makes you think pope Francis approved of the sins or the lifestyle?

The Church* not the Pope. The Pope is supposed to be the closest to God, but many don’t buy into that. It’s more of a traditional thing

The Catholic Church has been doing this on and off since Vatican II with mixed results.

He added some rules about who and when it can be celebrated, he didn't ban it. A lot is still left up to the bishops. Making sure the Church remains universal is a good thing.

Agree. His message of the church as a place of rest and refuge was a positive change. His humility also. A good man who tried to modernize the Roman Catholic faith as much as he could. RIP

the congregation is taught during the homily - And that has always been in the congregation’s language

The readings were in Latin but most people had a missal to follow along in their own language.

He chose 111 of like the 120-130 voting members.

So odds of things ever going back to the way they were under a John Paul is slim.

I mean that’s huge. I’d imagine the next pope is likely to be more liberal than he.

The College of Cardinals is still overwhelmingly Conservative. There are much more conservatives than liberals, and much more moderately conservative than liberals or moderately liberals.

This Pope was the reaction to JP2 and especially Benedict. This happens, its a pendulum within the church.

Prayers for wisdom from God for those who will be in the chambers.

I find the catholic religion a bit odd overall, and so do my catholic friends oddly enough, but they still send their kids to the schools, so I think tradition has a lot to do with it.

I think they need to elect Father Jim Sichko ( Bio). He's one of the "missionaries of mercy", and a tremendous advocate for the poor and needy. I've heard him speak, and he's very humble, has a true servants heart, and could really unite them. He's a local guy here in central Kentucky, but has been to the vatican many times.

I will say this in general, the local catholic charities here do great work. I think there are good catholics whose goal is to help people who need it.
