Looks like there's an Indian cardinal as well.

The age old response "Does the pope shite in the..." may change

Here I thought it was some deep theological reason.

Seems like it would be easy to let parishes have one TLM as long as the rest of the masses were in the vernacular.
plenty of priests don’t want to say the mass in Latin, and most don’t know it now anyway

It is strongly suggested that the Sanctus and Agnus Dei still be used - but plenty of priests don’t. The choir at my church doesn’t like Latin and it’s annoying. Like they have any flipping say so what so ever.

Theologically, it may be pointed out that priests serve in the place of Christ and therefore, their ministry specially configures them to Christ. As is clear from Scripture, Christ was not married (except in a mystical sense, to the Church). By remaining celibate and devoting themselves to the service of the Church, priests more closely model, configure themselves to, and consecrate themselves to Christ.

quote:

Paul makes it very clear that remaining single allows one’s attention to be undivided in serving the Lord (1 Cor 7:32–35). He recommends celibacy to all (1 Cor 7:7) but especially to ministers, who as soldiers of Christ he urges to abstain from “civilian affairs” (2 Tm 2:3–4).

Yes one of the main given reasons is that they would have divided interests and must be married the church essentially

They need to devote their lives to the Faith and would not be able to do so with a family

well, given the responsibilities many priests have - it would be difficult to have a family nowadays

Especially with the shortage of priests.

I know its not popular with some but I would be perfectly fine with allowing priests to be married.

Was always a strange stance to take. Marriage and procreation is the core of God's plan for humans.

bishops have to get permission from the Vatican to have a traditional Latin Mass in their diocese. Any priest ordained after 2021, who wants to say the Latin Mass, has to get permission from the Vatican

In essence, it’s been banned

I've seen parishes adopt a "Latin Novus Ordo." Have you seen that? I know of only one parish in my community that has received permission to celebrate the TLM.

I think the idea is letting priests marry would lead to more people becoming priests because they don't have to choose between the priesthood or a wife.

yes, it’s the ‘new’ Mass with Latin parts

Pope Paul VI sent a letter out in 1974 saying parts of the Mass should still be in Latin. Pope John Paul II reiterated this in 2000. Many priests are still not listening

I disagree - however I am a traditionalist and I work for the Church. It would be too difficult to have junior in travel ball if you’re a priest.

Sure, we all know priests who don’t do much. But there are plenty that do a lot. That wouldn’t be fair to a family.

Honest question, what do priests do that would take them away more than the regular man working 40-50 hour weeks

meetings with the bishop, 3AM last rites calls (or any time of day), lots and lots of pastoral care, the prayers that they have to say at certain times a day, a lot depends on what diocesan committees they are on - this is not including daily Mass, confession, and hours in their office

I don’t want to give away where I work so I am not getting too specific on purpose.

It’s like being a doctor that’s on call all the time - so not impossible to be married, but not necessarily good for the marriage either
