I have a roughly 1,420 sqft townhome.

How big of a generator would I need? Ballpark price?

Best time of year to buy? Clearly not this week

Do you still reign in new orleans? If you live where it gets cold maybe look in the next couple months. Nice to have one for an ice storm.

and it’ll obviously cost “about tree fiddy”

Might be able to answer this question later this evening. We have a house with a 24k generator that's bolted to a concrete slab outside with a natural gas hookup. The people who built the house added it on after a bad snow storm here in Arkansas about 5 years ago. I'm sure they have the paperwork around here, seeing as they kept every receipt of everything they put in this house

When it’s all said and done, around $10,000. Do you natural gas? If you can’t run a natural gas line to it, it’s basically worthless in most cases.

Got a quote for almost 15k for a 13k generator. I'll just buy a 1k Tri Fuel and backfeed my panel.

Get a tri-fuel portable generator and have an interlock kit and 50amp plug installed on your house.

My neighbor got one about 2 years ago... He got an estimate for $17,000.. He was old man mad.. He ended up finding a reputable place... I think it was around $12,000.. His house is around 1700 Sq Feet... We help each out and he is letting me run a power cord for my frig...

So much information. You know you could've just posted later after you checked for the receipt.

Propane is more reliable as a standby fuel source.

We have a 1350 sqft. I ended up putting a 30amp inlet with interlock and a 10kw tri fuel. I had natural gas line already in place. I can run everything including central A/C except for dryer. $2000+ for everything.

Bought a home in May and I plan on adding one next year. I’m just wondering how much it helps with resale.

We have a 10KW Generac that is not a whole house generator and does not power our A/C. It was installed prior to us buying it. It has come in handy several times over the past few years.

It runs on natural gas, cranks up once a week to keep the battery charged and we get it serviced once per year for $300.

I'm pretty sure something like that would cost a minimum of $4,500 installed.

If I were buying, I 'd probably get something with 3 times the power. It would likely cost $10,000 or more.

Generac

I install kohler standby generators in SWLA and highly recommend a 26kw unit for most homes with electric heat. Total install cost should be around 11k.
