I always have said and heard it said as ko-la-chee. But I was in Lafayette last week and everybody was saying ko-lash. What's the deal with this?

Technically, that is the proper pronunciation. But ko-la-chee (shay) has become the norm in Texas.

Live near Lafayette and go there almost every day. Never heard anyone say it differently than ko-la-chee.
Were you in the ghetto or something?

Technically that’s a klobasnek. Kolaches are traditionally filled with sweet stuff.

You are correct, it is supposed to be a sweet, not what it has become.

Kolatche’s are sweet but theyve been bastardized to include the pig in a blanket style now. I used to work a project in Kerrville and would get amazing kolaches from a little donut place there.

I had a boudin kolache from some place in Lake Charles that was AMAZING
