HPC is the epitome of the seeker sensitive movement. It's entertainment wrapped up with a little bible. Sure, they do good things and say some good things, but true believers won't stay there long drinking that baby milk.
15 minutes of music while people are getting settled in their seats. 45 minute sermon. Nice try.

The only megachurch allowed in BR is the Catholic Church. Every other church will be made fun of even though Catholics do some culty things too.
The Catholic church is the epitome of cult like.
They pray to Mary.
They pray to the dead.
They pray for the dead.
They think priests actually have the power to absolve sins.
They believe in a place besides heaven and hell.
They believe the Catholic doctrine is equal to the bible.
None of these things are biblical even one time.

...and there it is. The member of the nondenominational prosperity gospel church lashes out at the Catholic Church.
That's not very Christian of you. You're as predictable as a priest taking a vow of poverty and fricking an altar boy then getting shipped off to another parish to do it all over again... or Dino taking ten percent of everything you earn and then fricking his secretary then getting shipped off to another prosperity gospel church to do it all over...

I'm not a member of HPC, I'm a critic and what he said is true. Catholics get up to a lot of extra Biblical stuff.
I despise any church where the pastor/leader is living well. Dino was that type of a-hole. Sounds like the new guy is ok.
I was and am critical of the leadership of HPC at the time of the scandal as they got up in front of the church and admonished the congregation to:
-not ask any questions
-continue giving
Yeah, that's the open, honest, truthful way to run a church that professes to follow Jesus.

Ok I went to da church with caution and already thinking the worst. Recommended by my sister I asked her aint that the place where the preacher went Swaggart and swindled the members? She explained the new guy was great. So I started going there. Met Mike and several of the other pastors and they seem like good folk I continue going very skeptically and cautious cause I remember how bad it was in that area years ago. If they lived in mansions and had jets I'd be a gone pecan, but so far I enjoy it and its a good excuse to get to town once a week

Does this Dino pastor have a private Jet like Kenneth Copeland or Jesse Duplantis? If not he is not doing it right.
Now that’s two fricking hypocritical pricks that don’t even try to hide it. frick those guys.

I used to go there about 20 years ago when a gf used to take me.
Not cultish, I wouldn't even say "relevant" or "seeker-sensitive." Preaching was good, just not my style, leans toward the emotional or entertaining style.
I really didn't like when they changed the name to Healing Place Church. It sounds kinda lame. Plus it seems to run the risk of attracting the super-needy crowd.

My thoughts on them are that they are a “prosperity Bible” church
IMHO They are in the vein of Joel Osteen
I’ve heard others state this about them as well and is probably a valid criticism. I’m not a theologian by any means and didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn last night.
They do seem to be very optimistic that through good works, God will see you through to better days. I don’t get into critical analysis of Bible scripture and how it is taught so I can’t really give an opinion on the accuracy of the Bible and how they dispense their message.
I did feel better after leaving their services though and I always walked away from them with a positive feeling and outlook. As a Catholic and having lived through the Jimmy Swaggart scandal, I went to Healing Place as a pretty big skeptic. I walked away feeling like they honestly want to help their community and have pure intentions. That’s really all I can say. I’m not trying to a Healing Place pumper and I fully understand why folks are wary of these big arena style churches. I still am skeptical at most of them, TBH. I just know that I was introduced to HPC at a very dark time in my life and was impressed with how open I was received, how little they wanted of me in return, and to hear of all the good works they do in the Baton Rouge area, as well as mission trips around the world.

What was it named before? I’ve only known it to be Healing Place. I remember when the met in the smaller building in front and built the new arena style that they use now but I thought the name was always Healing Place.

The chuch band kind of reminds me of Dave Matthews Band because there are so many instruments. Best church band I've ever heard besides maybe Bethel or Hillsong.
Here's the thing, why does there need to be a band. Isn't church supposed to be about communicating the word of God?
Not a damn rock concert.
Cut out all the pomp and just get to the reading and the sermon. That's all I care about. Tell me what God/Jesus is saying about the weekly topic, pose some thoughts and ideas on how they relate to me, and that's it.
In and out in 25 minutes max.
I got shite to do, and don't need your watered down coffee and stale doughnuts.

Dino Rizzo was the founding pastor for a long time.
The church grew very large, did some great things in the community but many eye these large churches suspiciously after the whole Jimmie Swaggart and other type shenanigans that have taken place in other large non demonational churches.
Some people like to say they're 'cult like' because they welcome everyone with open arms and are pretty active in the community.
Dino Rizzo had an affair with a marketing gal or administration assistant.
He left and went to some church in Bama.
Mike who was the youth pastor stepped up to pastor.
The church still does some great things in the community.
They get a lot of criticism for their 'reverse ATM's' although almost every church I know of has some form of tithing electronically or online at this point in time.
I was pretty active at HPC from 08ish-11ish primarily because of a lady not the Lord...anyway pretty sure while I was there, two worship leaders cheated on their wives, the sports ministry guy - fat bald headed dude - cheated on his wife and a young black dude that sang was placed on "leave" because he thought he might be gay. LOL throw in the Dino stuff and that place was like a soap opera. Hell I haven't gone back to church since because I can't find one entertaining enough.

All of these mega churches have the same business model and lots of people end up making lots of money.
The pastor salaries are set by a board of overseers from other churches to keep it 'accountable.' Problem is, they are all eachothers' overseers. Circle jerk of setting eachothers salary.
The pastors have plausible deniability in making their 'real money' from book sales and speaking engagements. Welp, their churches are basically a guaranteed 10k book sales to justify those deals. AND their speaking engagements....again the circle jerking partner churches who pay eachothers pastor some ridiculous amount to come guest speak at their church.
I have no experience with the healing place, but I do have experience with a mega church as well as having listened to Dino speak from the pulpit. The scripture is so watered down, taken out of context, and editorialized that I can say pretty confidently, some of these mofo's are gonna have some serious splainin to do when they get where they're going.
And IDGAF what anyone else says.....These dudes living in 8,000 sq ft houses on 17 prime acres of real estate and wearing $500 sneakers, and driving lambos are completely full of shite and should not be trusted by anyone.
Find you a local community church that actually preaches the bible, not just uses it as a prop.

I agree with this 1000% and I do believe many of the 'churches' are full of this shite. Like I said, I understand the skeptics of HPC and I felt that way about both it and Bethany. Having had a bit of experience at HPC, I felt like I needed to share my opinion of that particular one because of the consistent criticism it gets here on the OT.
Again, that's simply my opinion and I'm sure it will continue to get bashed monthly. (Like Dino's secretary, right OT?)

The current pastor at healing place hates those churches too
"It's not a me thing, it's not a you thing, it's a Jesus thing"
I'm still skeptical of any church-in-large-building, but that guy seems to walk the walk

Anything I can do to make the time go faster. God don't communicate with me only when I'm in his little buildings of worship
