What is the optimal time to apply for and obtain an on campus apartment instead of a dorm room? For incoming Freshmen this Fall.

You're a little late to the party

I could be wrong on this, because it's been a long time since I was a student and they could have changed it. But I thought freshmen couldn't even apply for ECA or WCA, you had to be at least a sophomore.

If you are looking for apartments now for the fall, your kid will be living in the hood

Idk because mine lives off campus but do they even let freshmen in the apartments? I thought they were for upperclassmen. FYI everything fills up fast, both on and off campus.

I hear they have space at El Cid

You are all ridiculously wrong on this. I understand where your thought process is, but do some reading before you open your over opinionated bitch arse mouths.

On campus apartments are a massive waste of money but I wouldn’t expect a freshman to even get a spot in them

Honestly, I don't know what the culture is at LSU for freshmen, but at the large state school I attended, it would have been very tough socially to not be in the dorms as a freshman.
I still am close friends with lots of the people I lived with freshman year and can't imagine being off on my own in an apartment. Part of the experience of college is also learning to live with another person in a small space and navigating the challenges that come with it.
And being in a dorm forces you to be more social than you would have been otherwise.

The past two fall semesters saw Freshmen being placed into on campus apartments due to lack of dorm availability.

Those are the ECA and the WCA, you don't have to apply for them, they pop up as an option when you pick your dorm. They have select buildings set aside for freshman.

I typically subscribe to the same line of thought. Dorm living as an incoming Freshman is vital to the social aspect of college. It’s a mostly accurate assumption.
For some, however, an apartment would be better suited for their success.

El Cid was good enough for me.

In Fayetteville dorms are freshman only and there aren't even enough of those to accommodate all freshman. They've bought up surrounding apartment complexes to house them. After freshman year you're on your own for housing.

Res. Life Application Link
The sooner, the better.
Has your kid applied and been admitted yet? If so, you have to pay an enrollment deposit to do anything.
Also, you might be able to get an exemption to living on campus depending in your home address. You don't have to live as close to LSU to qualify as you might think. (Obviously, this still might not apply in your case.)

Back in 08-12, you had to at least a junior to even apply for one much less get one. Not sure if it's changed. They've only built a few buildings since I've left.
