Been a lot of good threads on here about people sobering up! Congrats to all. I’m always amazed at the changes I experienced as well as those of others and the various timelines around them.

For the heavy drinkers, what were your biggest changes esp weight loss and how long before seeing results? Below are mine years ago:

2-3 weeks: more energy, clearer mind, clearer skin/complexion.

Post 1month: started seeing significant weight changes (always exercised regularly). The weight changes tho were almost too good to be true. Prob dropped closer to 30lbs by the end of the second month without really heavy dieting.

Would like to see other’s stories as they could help motivate those struggling. Share your journey, OT?!

Beware of sugar intake. Some crave it more after they quit drinking.

I was losing a pound every week I wasn't drinking

I mean for christ sakes, I was drinking margatas after work and then a 6-8 beers when I got home and then eating a full dinner.

I was probably consuming what.. 3500-4k calories?

Stopped drinking for 9-10 months and went from 245 to 207

The problem for me with these threads is that it seems to always be people going from drinking ridiculous amounts and/or frequency and I’m like, yeah obviously that’s bad.
But for others like me that have 1-2 drinks on Fri, Sat, and sometimes maybe one midweek evening, it’s hard to compare.
I’m fine cutting back just to change things up though but doesn’t seem as big of a deal as “I used to drink a fifth of vodka a day and now feel so much better!”
Know what I mean?

If you dropped 30lbs in 2 months you were really fat and/or your drank a case of beer a day before you quit.

I know exactly. I'm more where you are now having a few on the weekends than where I was. I had an every afternoon beer habit during Covid. Crack the first one around 3:00. Have another before logging out for the day. Go down and cook dinner and have 1-2 more. After dinner was bourbon. I was easily having 5-6 drinks a day. Of course it was spread out from 3 PM to around 11 PM so I never felt drunk, and my tolerance for it was high, but that's a ton of calories on top of eating.

I was almost completely sober for almost a year. I remember going to a 4th of July cookout and having a couple of beers. The next time I had one was that October on a beach vacation. The next time was NYE watching bowl games with my dad. Then the next one was on Spring break. So 4 times in a year I had 1-2 beers each time. It does wonders for your health and keeping weight under control.

Now I buy a couple of 6 packs and they will last like 10 days or so. I might have one on weekdays a couple nights a week, and 2-3 on weekends.

Even if you're only drinking 2 Michelob's per night you cut out 1400 calories per week by quitting drinking, the weight loss thing isn't surprising.

I started looking "dryer" after a couple weeks. More muscle striations, cheeks not puffy, more vascularity. More energy during the day. Better focus at work. I do more stuff in the evenings. My sleep has gotten a lot better. Cardio is better. Recovery from workouts is better. Higher sex drive.

I was what most think as an alcoholic for about 20 years, I mainly just drank beer though (daily 12 to 18) so I didn't get too out of hand or arrested.

I got tired of feeling like crap in the morning, most of the day and my gut health was terrible.

Stopped drinking, started lifting/walking 2 miles daily, going to sleep at 9 pm and taking Saxenda.

I've dropped 54 lbs in two years and feel fantastic all day
