Random Interior/exterior home inspection from home owners insurance carrier?

This feels odd. I checked it out and the management company says it’s legit but I don’t trust them either. Anyone heard of this inspection?

It’s standard operating procedure.
Happens ALL the TIME.

Yes it happens. Some companies will let you do a self survey. Others have 3rd party companies that come out.

Weird. I’ve been a homeowner for a long time. And I can’t ever recall having this type of random inspection. Also seems odd for it to be done on a 6 year old home. Meaning the lifespan of many items aren’t near ending

Some carriers charge YOU as much as $350 to send someone out to inspect as well, or have you complete a 45 min inspection.

Tell them to frick off and get another carrier. Problem solved

Same house, same insurance since Nov 2000... never had this happen. State Farm, if it matters.

My moms HO flew a drone over her house and told her to take down a degraded shed and replace the roof on her patio or they will drop her.

They are coming around to see if you have a trampoline or something like that. Checking for fire alarms working properly. Happened to me around 15 years ago.

My agent says they will drop the interior inspection if you push hard enough and high enough.

My house is 110 years old. Seems like every time I have to renew they want a new inspection.
Old homes are like yachts: nice to look at, but a PITA to own.

But an interior inspection on a 6 year old house isn’t normal, unless you have a high value home. If coverage is over a certain amount, some carriers will request an interior inspection regardless of the home’s age because they want photos of the interior. High end homes can have wildly different levels of customization and high end finishes, so they’re trying to make sure the coverage amount is adequate and to have photos for an adjuster to reference later in case of a fire or tornado that leaves the home unrecognizeable to its pre-damaged condition.

They hire third party contractors to do walkbys. One of the reasons I have locks on my fence gates to my backyard.
I had a carrier raise my rates about 15 years ago by over 30%. No claims, no severe weather events in the area. I called and asked why the rates were raised. They said that they did an "appraisal" of my house. I politely told the lady that no appraisal was done on my residence because they didn't have access to the interior or exterior. He response was "well, we sent somebody out there." Switched immediately.
Inspections for insurance are not a problem, until the insurance company makes it a problem.

I don't blame insurance co's wanting to see what they are covering. I sure wouldn't want to be responsible for a structure sight unseen.

I got Progressive on everything last year because Travelers raised rates ridiculously high. Progressive was half as much and did it all on my phone app. I’ve lived here 33 years and never had a pop in inspection. But also my doorbell hasn’t worked in 30 years and I don’t go to the door.

It took me 10 minutes over the phone to switch

Should have shot it down

Ask your agent if the carrier did an inspection then.
I've written for a lot of companies over the years. Every single one of them sends an inspector out for all new policies....exterior inspection at minimum.
Whether they reinspect every few years for renewals or wanted interior inspections too varied by carrier. But all of them did at least an exterior inspection within a couple weeks after the policy was first written. If all yours required was an exterior inspection, you probably would have had no idea someone came by unless you happened to be home and see the inspector parking in front of the house.

Whenever we change carriers, we get inspected.
And sometimes they make you pay for the privilege even after paying for a 4 point inspection to apply for the coverage.
and with rising rates, we change carriers fairly often.
We have had them do walk arounds or just drone flyovers.
