No. Metairie sucks now. Bad leadership, too many people and too much traffic. Pubic schools aren’t good, and rising crime. Metairie is a shell of what it once was. Northshore all day, any day.

No, Ruston is terrible. You don’t want to move here. Keep looking elsewhere. That is, unless you are planning to open a Cajun meat market.

Youngsville is the only one of these that is actually in South Louisiana.
And it's full. Development has outpaced infrastructure here.

quote:Caney is often ranked higher than Toledo purely for Bass. Freshwater fishing in general Toledo is typically a top 10 lake, but Caney is as well, and D'arbonne and Bussy are both top 25. From Mingo's area he can be on those lakes with a livewell full before someone from the other areas listed is even in line at the boat ramp at Toledo.
Darbonne is way better than Toledo Bend.
I don't argue your other points, but if outdoors and safety is a person's focus it is hard to beat that area.

I used to live in Youngsville in the early 2000’s, and I loved it out there. There’s a lot I miss from the Laffy area, but I can’t imagine what insurance is like down there now. Other than that concern and traffic Youngsville would be high on my list.

Hard to say. They just announced a 1600 home development by the sports complex, and Sugar Mill Pond is building out all the way to Savoy. It's odd I guess in that no one that lives here works here so it's pretty empty during weekdays. Restaurants can't make it without a lunch crowd, so it's kind of a revolving door. No real business has moved in other than bars/restaurants and boutique stores.

Toledo is a perennial top 5 bass lake over the past decade and id love to see one ranking with Caney even top 10.
I'd rather fish Caddo or Bisteneau over Caney.
I think safety is a wash between Lincoln Parish and St Tammany. The grambling area is rough and Monroe has some bad spots.
Hunting is absolutely better in that area than north shore but I'd argue for fishing because of the access to Grand Isle, the Rigolets and other inshore areas. More of a dealers choice type of decision. If Toledo Bend was where Caney is then I wouldn't argue it.

Monroe isn’t in Lincoln parish and grambling is irrelevant to Ruston. That’s like saying Slidell crime is relevant to mandeville

Destin area isn't some of the most beautiful beaches in the country

That’s not what you said
Here's exactly what I said:
quote:
When it comes to "fun" activities I prefer the north shore because I'm 3 hours from Destin and some of the best beaches in the world
We've decided a couple of weeks ago to do a beach weekend on a Thursday. On Friday we picked up the kids from school and we were in Destin water playing before it was dark outside.
That is a major convenience that is a positive about this particular area of the state.
quote:I've actually lived in both of these cities- Mandeville has better schools, better food, it's closer to better amenities like New Orleans, LSU, 30A and a major metropolitan airport.
While your details are incorrect, your ultimate determination is spot on
Ruston has better hunting for sure. Fishing I think is a wash. While I prefer the perch and bass fishing up in that area- I also took my kid to run crab traps this past fall and that was badass to come home with 43 crabs and and 15 select #1 blue crabs in Lacombe Bayou that was 20 min from my house.
Again- dealers choice but West Monroe and Ruston don't have world class lakes within an hour of either. Good lakes but it ain't Grand Isle, Big Lake or Toledo.

quote:Oh yeah that's fair but that's pretty much the only crime you get in St Tammany is trash from surrounding areas like Nola, Slidell or Livingston Parish.
Monroe isn’t in Lincoln parish and grambling is irrelevant to Ruston. That’s like saying Slidell crime is relevant to mandeville
Again- I think from a safety standpoint I don't think Mandisonville is any more dangerous than Ruston. I think it's pretty much a wash.
I feel like this thread has turned into me shitting on two areas that I love. Again- I ranked Ruston higher than where I have my home and live.
I was using Monroe for West Monroe. I see now that Ruston is the area you're arguing for. Ruston is great. I think Mandeville and Madisonville are better. If for some reason you think otherwise - awesome. Idk what to say, it's pretty clear we're not going to agree.

I heard Bastrop is a great city to live in. Booming economy with a low crime rate

I haven't lived up that way in a long time and always just considered part of North Bossier.
If you can find a decent lot on black bayou or cypress lake, definitely not a bad way to retire.

Am I missing something about Youngsville? I’ve been through there several times & it just appears to be a bunch of nice hoods surrounded by sugar cane, super congested roads & a nice sports complex. So just….sprawl?

It is. Oddly enough it's the 11th largest city in LA which is wild to me. I grew up there way before they incorporated. It's still a nice place to raise a family, and you can send your kids to public school, but I'm not sure about top 5 in the state
