DENVER (Reuters) - Top oilfield services provider SLB is reorganizing certain functions within its business and continuing to reduce its workforce, according to a source familiar with the matter and an internal email seen by Reuters.
As part of its reorganization, SLB will create a new performance function, led by a new chief performance officer, it said in an internal email sent to employees on Monday and seen by Reuters. That organization will include a series of functions, ranging from security and operational integrity to global business services, the email said.

The changes come as the Houston-based company has been working on a cost-savings initiative, according to the source, and is preparing for tepid growth this year as its customers are more cautious about spending amid concerns of an oversupplied oil market.
SLB had been undergoing some restructuring efforts in the past year and took $237 million in severance charges in 2024, according to its quarterly earnings report.
It was not immediately clear how many workers would be laid off as part of the reorganization. Reorganized functions would be in place by the end of the month and personnel updates would be out by the end of the quarter, said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity as the matter was not public.
SLB employed roughly 111,000 people as of February 2024, according to a filing.

The world's largest oilfield service company has continued to operate in Russia, even as competitors left following the country's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Last month, it said its current business aligns with new U.S. sanctions but warned that revenue in Russia was declining.

Industry wide effort to whack older hands with big salaries.
shite its a corporate America trend right now. Cut older, bigger salaries, do NOT backfill, hope for the best.
Good luck out there.

Such is the world of upstream baws.
SLB is a pump and dump serial downsizer but anyone who works for them should know that already and assume the risk.

My wife works for them. Everything you have read is true. A lot of those jobs are being outsourced to India. Lot of major companies doing this now.

Everyone is outsourcing to India. Part of the Chevron layoffs is coinciding with building a multi-billion dollar center in India with a staff of 800-1000 petrotechnical employees. Exxon and other majors have already done this

I haven't heard of layoffs in my part of the world but I know other areas have already let people go. I actually need to add some headcount right now but can't because the slow downs have triggered a global hiring freeze.
One of my friends back in the states was let go by CVX end of last year. It's not easy in the states right now for upstream folks.

Maybe baws can start drilling for eggs. There is definitely a shortage of egg supply.

Shell outsources IT to India every few years, then brings them back a few years later when service sucks. Then they hire a new CIO who pimps cost savings, cycle repeat.
I don't know about SLB in particular, but establishing a shared service center for backoffice begs the question why they weren't doing it before. I know one major I did a little bit of work for had a completely different CIO for every division (E&P, refining, etc.) and all of them used different document management systems and archives, it was a complete f@*#ing mess.

Yikes.

We had some critical downhole services SLB provided that the engineers swore nobody else could do.
Well, we found some folks out of Houston to do it at about 20% of what we were paying.
Everything with them we sent elsewhere starting in 2019. Way, way too expensive.

Just another good reason why you should never let the geologists drive.
