If any of you feel like driving up to Picayune, Rouses Representative Peter Roy will be there today at 5pm. He's suppose to address the Picayune City Council board regarding the new Picayune grocery store’s status. He supposedly will take questions from the public.
They better bring their A game to that store. Picayune currently has 3 grocery stores. The largest is the Walmart supercenter (no different than any other Walmart property). The second is Claiborne Hill (owned by the Aquistapace's) and they have full community support. The third is the Sunflower (used to be Sowden/Smith Sunflower but is now owned by an Asian family) and the community support is extremely strong. Shoppers Value learned a big lesson there.

True as a resident of Pearl River county I am curious how this one plays out. The area seems to clamor for new business but is weird in their support. Grew up south of Houma so definitely excited about a rouses but not sure if there are enough LA transplants to carry it. Either rouse or Claiborne makes it don’t see both left standing

I'm not sure what their real estate arrangements are. I can guess that Claiborne Hill bought the entire shopping center since you don't have Gibsons Drug Store on the North end any more, I suspect the own the whole strip. The Rouses will be parking immediately against a CVS. I don't know if the usual Picayune landlords (names beginning with Gi......) own their property so I can't guess at their property costs

I also heard they own the building but man if this town isn’t an insane rumor mill. Hope we end up with something more similar to Saint Charles in Houma or Florida in Mandeville than what’s in east Houma. Village east rouse and especially tunnel blvd are depressing. I am hearing it won’t be until 2024 before Picayune location is open

I used to work at the Pville Hwy 42 LeBlanc’s back in ‘05. Good times and great people.

We should've been working out at the Crossgates Athletic Club on Highland Parkway back in 2012. Beware of the press releases from Picayune. Bogalusa is actually getting their 4 Lane highway. Poplarville is the sleeper candidate. They actually approved dispensaries.

Those Epicurean designed stores were the bomb when they opened in the 2000’s. You walk in to the bakery and hot foods under spot warm lighting. Then the deli, produce, cheese, and then curve into the meat department. Then you have the main flood lit grocery section perpendicular to the entrance with your typical grocery selections with dairy and frozen foods bookended the aisles. Nested in the crack between the entrance and the check out lanes is the floral, wine, and liquor departments.
Sadly, most of the newer stores don’t have that elegant presentation of shopping. For example the the store by Nicholls looks like Whole Foods in Metairie. Hot foods and the bakery to your left, meat in the back. Aisles are back to being parallel with the entrance and exits.
One thing about the store on West Main in Houma and the Epicurean in Thibodaux was the gigantic flag pole and the gigantic American Flag. The should have it at every store.

Louisiana Fish Fry is 1/3 the price and better. I'll give that one a try. A friend recommended Jambalaya Girl, and it was surprisingly good for a box mix.
Well, try the Blue Runner Jambalaya mix that comes in a can. My family loves when I cook it. Previously, I would use Mam Papaul’s, in a box, but everyone seems to prefer the Blue Runner, as do I.
Have you tried either?

They took over the Winn Dixie in Ponchatoula and its garbage.
I dunno about that, the Winn Dixie in Ponchatoula was pretty trashy the last couple years it was open.

Walking down the aisles, there are huge holes where product used to be. Going to check out, the lines are down the aisles because only 2 registers are open on a Saturday afternoon.
This is all stores lol
Your bias against rouses is showing hard in this thread.
And lol at you for wanting to get jambalaya girl box mix lol

The one here has been downhill since they opened. Dimly lit, Deli/Bakery/Seafood/Meat section is hard to navigate because it's so jam-packed with stuff, whole store wreaks of raw seafood, and it's ridiculously expensive...

I’m wondering about this jambalaya girl” mix. Better than Oak Grove?
I’m surprised Kroger hasn’t expanded further into Louisiana. Anyone remember Delchamps?

This isn't true. The two stores in closest proximity to some of the wealthiest zip codes in Louisiana are both crap.
Well then “the wealthy” aren’t shopping there.
Rouses brings in what their customers buy.
This is grocery 101. Not hard.

oh so wrong. As far as cheater Louisiana foods, Jambalaya Girl really can't be beat. The jambalaya, gumbo and pastalaya seasoning are all second to none
I'm of just the opposite opinion. All Jambalaya Girl products taste disgusting.

I miss Leblanc’s too. It is a shame what Rouse’s did to Drusilla.
Leblanc’s had high end fresh food in deli and bakery. Rouse’s has pre-made preservative filled crap you find at 24 gas s station. Store is filthy and Rouse’s removed the good brands and replaced with their own brand for at least half of the things I buy.

Yep?
I can remember saving the Green receipts for schools. I made myself the self appointed collector and tabular of the receipts we sent in in my 7th and 8th grade years. I think we had the highest total brought in and got the pizza party both years. It helped out that we were able to get some receipts from a few boat orders.
Delchamps also had some set items that were released one week at a time. I can remember my parents going week after week to get the full encyclopedia set from Delchamps.
What sucked about the 2 locations in South Lafourche is that the both lacked a fresh bakery department. By 1997, when Delchamps closed, Walmart moved out of the Tarpon Heights Shopping Center. That store closed completely.
Rouses purchased the 2nd South Lafourche Delchamps in Larose and added a bakery. The Kmart that was next to the Rouse also shut down in 2002. That entire shopping center was demolished after Ida except for the Rouses location which still hasn’t reopened. The parking lot is being used for campers as temporary housing.
Rouses eventually picked up the 2 recently built Frank’s locations in South Lafourche in Larose and Golden Meadow. Since the stores were new and signage and decor were decent they covered up the Franks logos with Rouses. The stores feel small, and the Golden Meadow one has some leveling issues with the floor. There are more cracks there than the state of California. The floor issue is nothing new. The store had leveling issues after opening under Franks.

I loved the new Leblanc's on airline and germany. Rouses took over and it went to shite. meat and produce are always suspect. service is virtually non-existent.
