Russell and Brandon Hantz - what's the actual story?

I had seen Russell on Survivor several times back in the day, but I actually just finished watching South Pacific (23) which aired in 2012 I think, so I only now found out about Brandon.
Did anyone go to high school etc with people from this family? What all would you say? TIA

Russell probably should have won his first season but was such an unlikable ahole the jury voted another way.

Back then, the person who deserved to win rarely won because all of the jurors were so butthurt about being played. So many worthless winners.
We will never know but I always wondered if the producers fed him the location of the idol. He found them too easily too many times. I get that he went looking close to camp and he knew the clue would be near a landmark that would help someone find the idol but he just found too many. I seem to recall a couple were not in easy to find spots.
