She stole $1.5 million worth of chicken wings

quote:

Vera Liddell was the food service director for Harvey School District 152.

Cook County prosecutors accused her of stealing massive amounts of food meant for take-home meals for students learning remotely during the pandemic.

The Cook County State’s Attorney tells WGN Investigates that Liddell entered a guilty plea Friday and received a 9-year prison sentence.

Court records accuse Liddell of ordering more than 11,000 cases of chicken wings from the school district’s food provider and then picking-up the order in a district cargo van.

Probably would have gotten less time if she just slept with some students.

I’m assuming she was selling the wings to a restaurant or three.

11,000 cases of wings according to the article was worth 1.5 million dollars.

Sentence seems fair.

She wasn’t eating those all by herself.

She selling wings to a local wing joint. Why do we always only hear half the story?

Did the math and it works out to just over $136 a case.

Thankfully she didn't do this o. January 6th, or she would have received a life sentence

This would have been caught with a simple monthly or quarterly inventory count. Wonder if someone else was in on this?

I’m sorry, but you’re not putting 11,000 cases of wings in a cargo van. This would require at least a few hundred trips.

There’s no doubt in my mind that she has a close friend or family member that either owns a restaurant or was trying to sell wings during covid and she gave them a discount compared to what distributors were offering. She got paid and they save money.

People in our country need food and we are sending billions to a fraudulent money laundering scheme in Ukraine. And, many fools will vote for it to continue with the cum guzzlers, Kamala and Tampon Tim. What a shame.

Just came across this story and knew it would already be posted

At first glance, I just figured she had been skimming for years and the bills added up, but this was a quick hit by someone with a sketchy history before she was even hired.

quote:

“The massive fraud began at the height of COVID during a time when students were not allowed to be physically present in school,” reads a proffer presented at Liddell’s bond hearing. “Even though the children were learning remotely, the school district continued to provide meals for the students that their families could pick up.”

quote:

Liddell, 68, previously served as the food service director for the Chicago school district, despite having multiple bankruptcies in her past, according to CBS.

Per ABC, prosecutors said Liddell placed orders for the chicken wings with the district’s main food supplier for nearly two years, starting in July 2020, though she would keep the food, despite charging the district.

Court records say employees of the district’s food provider, Gordon Food Service, were all familiar with the defendant “due to the massive amount of chicken wings she would purchase.”
