Interesting how Baton Rouge is notably absent from the boundary. Any idea why it doesn’t include BR?

You can’t leave north and central Alabama out. Alabama has had more F5/EF-5 tornadoes than any other state.

All a part of Dixie Alley.

Yeah, North Miss and Alabama get bigger tornadoes then anyone else from what I read a few years ago.

Exactly...the stretch up I59/20 from Pickens to Birmingham is easily I'm an alley. I live on basically the exit 1 corridor of I459 in Bessemer near I59/20. Since the April 27, 2011 nightmare...we have been within 10 air miles of at least 10 ground truth tornadoes. Several F2 - F5. Nobody can convince me we are not sitting ducks here right in an alley.

Seems like everyone around Tupelo has a tornado shelter including this gem I spotted near New Albany

the saving grace is the Oak/Red Mountain ridges - storms tend to track north or south of them - i'm right at Brook Highland on 280 - and most stay north of us on the Downtown side or south in the columbianna/Chelsea area.

we had one touch down this past spring on the Double Oak MT ridge - could see it from my apartment....was not a cool feeling.

There is a low area between Chrystal Springs and Brookhaven that funnels weather. I know AirCare pilots that have spoken about this for years.

Really? That’s interesting. So maybe the jet stream does something odd in that area?

I was up close and personal with the NWLa tornado this morning. I was headed north on a state highway and it was headed northeast looking to pass that highway at about the same place I was gonna be. I had RadarScope going in velocity and decided I could beat it.

I did but only by a couple of minutes. Had it not started raining so ridiculously hard I probably could have stopped and watched it. It wasn’t on the ground when it crossed the highway but it was low enough to put the twist on several pine trees as it crossed.
